I think the name is a bit confusing. When I saw it at the feed store I thought it was one of those thick edible pod snap peas, but it is in fact a snow pea. Here's the description: "Plenty of delicious flat-podded, stringless snow peas from short disease-resistant vines." So, we're good Philip!

It does say "Pea - Snow" above Oregon Sugar Pod II.

I find sugar snap peas to be...good raw, but not cooked. Snow peas I love both ways. So I grow snows.

Can't plant yet, Philip. Have to wait for soil temps to hit 85 or below. It was 111 here today. I'm guessing the soil temp isn't anywhere close.

I'm going to cross my fingers, and try one more time in Earth Boxes. Tried them last year and they weren't edible. Just hoping the heat waves are done for the year.

Howdy there @ctcarol 😎
I'm not sure what you mean, that your snow peas were inedible ????
Stringy ? Or What ?
The warm temps of late spring kills them.
Hear, in zones 8 and 9 , for fall planting we plant sept or oct. About feb, we plant again for double crop.

Sept, oct, is about a month before it turns cold.

For your zone, 22 ? I'm not sure. It ever gets cool enough.

I'd look them up in the planting guide first.

Yep! They were tough, stringy, small. Trying a different seed this year, and will wait until Oct. to plant...and cross my fingers. We never know what kind of weather winter will bring here. Could have a heat wave in Dec. or a light frost, but it's never consistent for long. If they don't make it, I'll replace them with lettuce or spinach . Seeds are cheap.

I like your attitude Carol 😁 ! I'm of same.
I wonder if there's a variety right for you. I'm familiar with your climate. Crazy ! like it can be hear in San Joaquin valley. We'll feal like cool weather has set in. Then ! Sometime in Oct, get about a week of heet, then it rains and snows in mountain's and winter sets in.
Best of luck to you. Thumbs up

Well ! 😞 ! Didn't get snow peas planted. I have a problem Houston:::::: Problem is ! :::::: Neighbor, a few doors down, decided to let his chickens loose in mornings. They make there way through my yard, and ! You know what !😑!!!
It's illegal to have them in city.
Called code enforcement. I have to file formal complaint. But ! The guy told me that technically, it is trespassing, and i could call the police. I'll file complaint. But, in mean time, im gonna call police. I'm afraid to talk to them. Ive heard there druggies. Plus, chickens are of the fighting variety. SO !!!

Sorry you have chickens loose, they can snatch up newly emerging plants in a hurry! Most cities allow them in small numbers, which I think is good (nothing beats fresh eggs), but it is important to keep them contained. Until you get it resolved, just keep a jar of small rocks handy and lob them at the birds. It is unlikely you will actually hit one, but you may convince them to avoid your gardens.

If they really are the fighting variety, they are definitely illegal in Ca., or at least the roosters are subject to being confiscated.

Hi there girls 😁
Yep. Deb, fresh eggs ! Yum !😜
Neighbors have had them contained for years. I've have no problem with then keeping them. Allthought rosters shouldn't be kept. Guess they heard that free range chicken eggs taste better. And/or chickens eat less grain.
Well. Now. The buck stops hear.

My snow peas are still alive, about 8-10" tall. I think my hens got most of them as they were emerging, and I was late with a fall planting. But what the heck, I'll see what happens. Live and learn for next fall if nothing else.

Bad Chickie's. Bad Chickie's. 😭😭😭 Eat you peas. Did you give them a good talking to ?
Of course ya can blame them. Pea sprouts are delicious. You should try some, if you never have.
No ! Not the one's you have growing, silly. Rolling on the floor laughing
I meet a lady at farmers mkt, she had flats of different sprouts. She took peas, spread them out on top of soil in a flat, filled with soil. When sprouts got to size, she cut them off with scissors, or you can, lift them out, and soak in water to get soil off. Pea's very tasty. Radishes, good to, with just a bit of a peppery bite.
I believe, she did radishes like ya do alfalfa sprouts.
There I went, off track, AGAIN D'Oh!
Ho, well Shrug! !!!
