And the hellebores are coming but not so lush this year.

Probably that Royal Hybrid that they originally offered years ago. This one is always lush, like a small shrub.

A local find. The leaves were all yellow but I took a chance because I never find a flower with dark nectaries offered or a yellow that isn't a winter gem.
edit - OK, could be a winter jewel after all- Golden Sunrise. Oh well.

Burpee's Phoenix. They had a hellebore open day years ago at Fordhook in PA when they first bought Heronswood. Did anyone here go? They may have been pricey at the time but their plants were very healthy and vigorous. I wish they would do it again (with a little better pricing) but I guess the moment is gone. I would love to go when the epimediums are in bloom. They had a nice collection there.

Probably a winter gem but could be a Pine Knot seedling. I bought several winter gems in one of the coops a few years ago. Most of them didn't make it but a few did. Most were never vigorous for me.

This one is the healthiest plant from that coop - Golden Lotus. Now that I think of it, there was a flat of Golden Lotus on clearance previous fall. That would have made a good edge.

Loretta they look good, most of the snow is finally gone now and I can see the bulbs and Hellebore are just starting to break ground. Possible snow here Fri., Sat. & Sun and again next Wed. So most likely a few weeks till I get to see any blooms. Royal Heritage has thrived here for many years such ba good plant wonder why I do not see it any more.

They need to be constantly moist. Maybe that is the issue?

Not a great lover (except for H.foetidus) until now. I bought Helleborus argutifolius over easter and I'm smitten................

I thought it was moist enough but the old house had an underground spring running through. I'll try again and keep it moist - thanks! I went to see what was happening with my Hellebore this morning and it seems something has been chomping on it Glare

Thank you, all. Bob, I just googled Royal Heritage hybrids and they are still available. I haven't noticed them either. They use to be the back cover of every catalog.
Longk, beautiful species hellebore and corydalis! I especially love the ferny foilage on the corydalis.
Ginny, hellebore is suppose to be poisonous. I wonder what would eat it?

I'm not saying you are wrong, just curious what would like hellebore since I've been known to recommend them for that reason. I've seen them with aphids and my H foetidus gets leaf miners every year but otherwise, they have been left alone.

That's a nice shot of the ladybug hiding in the lewisia. Pretty trout lily too. They aren't showing here yet. We have them wild in the woods. This year I'm going to take some because the town DPW treats the environment carelessly. The area where the trout lilies are has been driven over and dumped on. We'll see what comes back.
