So.....first, thanks for joining, Carol in CA.
I'm already learning, and love it!

Saltflower: yes, I love the 'closed eye' messy plate, full-bite look!

PlantManager: thank you! We couldn't be having this much fun without you guys! She loves to see other people are following her progress. : )

Also......although a little late in the season, I decided to gamble and planted 32 new seedlings today.

Cherokee Purple
Aker's West Virginia
Lillian's yellow heirloom

So.....here we go again...

Good for you! Because of what you're doing, Baby Bunny will probably become a lifelong gardener. I wish more children had parents who are like you.

well, we got our first two cherry tomatoes ripening a few days ago....

we got all excited for them, as they turned a nice shade of red and looked delicious...

came home today to find that the birds (or whatever) got to both of them first.

Darn, they love to do that! You may have to get some bird netting and cover them up. Poke in some sticks or rebar to hold it up off the plants. If it drapes on the plants, they just eat them through the holes.

She knows there will be others, and we will put up some protection.

On another note, one of my regular tomatoes is ripening, but, it's really small still. Is this normal?

Tomatoes will not ripen until they achieve the size that particular variety will be. You have a nice cherry tomato. If you thought it was supposed to be larger, it will not be.

Sorry the bird's got to it first but it is interesting. I had one little cherry that was turning red, looked like something had nipped it but it had scarred over and was growing. I walked out there after church today and it was laying in the next row over with about have of it eaten. When I walked out there I flushed to birds out of the garden. They both looked like female cardinals but something just didn't seem right about that I.D. I'll keep my eyes open for them. I'm hoping this doesn't become a problem for you or me. Ah well, we'll see!!! Smiling

PaulF...

If they were cherry tomatoes, I'd be pretty happy with the current result, but.....those are delicious tomatoes. (at least that's what the packet said...)

So, they seem awfully small to me....?

The largest one right now is bigger than a golf ball, but much smaller than a baseball.

Any thoughts?

On the bright side, our pepper plants are doing great!! The three plants have yielded a number of peppers each. : )

We have been having Anaheim peppers and Jalapeno peppers with several of our meals lately.

I did notice they seemed to have quit producing new peppers....are they a once-per-season producing plant?
