I have three of those new Japanese hybrids ( Perfect Orange, Pink Ribbons and Carmen Lucia) and from what I've read, the jury is still out on how hardy they are. They suffered frost damage far more than my other ice plants early this winter. I covered them with a lots of leaves to protect them, plus I brought cuttings inside and rooted them.

I'm hoping to find Fire Spinner this year.

Cheryl,
You can buy them at the O'Tooles Garden Center on Federal and Belleview. They may have them at the Wadsworth or Colfax store. I also have the 'White Pearl". Right now, you can buy them for 3 for $10. Lovey dubby

Just found this thread!

Am looking for cooperii

HAVE 'Gold Nugget' I THINK. I got 2 yellow flowered ones last year and lost one.
HAVE on the way, 'Firespinner' Did you SEE the High Country Gardens catalog cover?? WOW!!!
And I don't even like pink! But I bought 5 to share with friends.
And several others I'll have to look up later, just one each, from a Mamajack's sale on Cubits. Names I remember are "lavender ice" and 'peridot'.

Wish I had time to list them now, but I'm waiting for a ride.....

I ordered Several of these from Spring Hill and they sent dead plants. I'll never order from them again.

I'm seeing Firespinner at just about every nursery in town. I picked up a small but healthy one for $2.50.
I'll be checking out the O'Tooles near me for those Japanese hybrids. I had cuttings inside this winter of the ones I bought last year and they bloomed indoors.

Clint, years ago I had problems with Springhill sending bad plants. Ever since I just throw every catalog from them directly in the garbage without even looking at them.

Well, they sorta work indoors. They get too leggy, even in a southern window. I don't really recommend it.

If you have grow lights these will live over the winter. If you are worried about them growing in your zone, it's a good way to keep them going. Most are pretty winter tough!

FWIW, cooperii is a weed.
I found some growing in a pot with another plant I bought last year. I dug out the cooperii and flung it out in the back yard. I didn't want ti because I've seen how invasive it can get. . Today I found it growing where I flung it and doing well.

I love cooperii! It is so beautiful when it blooms. Which it does all summer here. I edged a flower bed with it. I look at it as pink and green mulch. Lol.

I also use it in containers. It hangs down nicely and rarely needs water.
