Daffodils begin the season here. Over the years, I have moved them to
various sections of the property. I love their fragrance, and they are such
nice specimens to add to a vase and enjoy inside. These are two of the
four sections that I have planted so far. These two sections join each other.

The daffodils multiply quickly so I divide and plant them in areas where
not much else will grow.

Being bulbs, the daffodils can handle it, and thus provide me with
some color to end the rather desolate look of winter.

That is a lot of daffodils! I have never had any live long enough to divide - heck, the last bulbs I bought from a fundraiser never even bloomed. But this year I have some daffs, tulips & hyaciths coming up, am crossing my fingers that they bloom - but nowhere near the beautiful numbers that you have!~Jan

Jan, you should have blooms this year. In three years, you should have a nice clump, or
so it goes in this zone. If your winters are very cold, they may need to be dug up and stored
in a cool, dark, place, but I really don't know. It is just a thought. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Margaret. It's a bit labor intensive some years to move them, but enjoyable.

BB, I think I probably do everything wrong that can be done. Divide and plant while they
are in bloom. Plant too shallow in rocks and tree roots. Seldom fertilize. They get all mixed
up when I divide. That's okay with me though. Since there are several varieties, plus early,
mid, and later bloomers, there is something blooming in each clump throughout their
season. Thank you for the reply. Oh, I do deadhead them each year after they have all
finished blooming. They seem to bloom better the next year.

Rita, creeping phlox blooms next, lavender and pink. It partially covers the large, flat, rocks.
Tall bearded iris grows in the center along with a few old-type daylily seedlings. The older
daylilies curve around the area creating a dark green border. I like the look of the border, and
some of these daylilies bloom where enough sun streams through the tree canopy. Glad you
enjoyed the photos, and thanks.

Thanks Michele, some years provide a better display than others. It is just nice to see
their perky faces after the drab browns of winter. You probably don't see all the winter
drab in your zone.

Your daffs are just soooo pretty. I visited middle Tn several times and saw some of the prettiest spring blooming plants. I guess ones of the best was patch after really big patch of the creeping phlox. I didn't know what it was but finally was told. It's sooooo pretty in big swatches. I hope you post pictures of yours when they start blooming.

Mona thanks, the creeping phlox has already started to bloom in sunny areas, but not
in its prime as yet. Nice fragrance too. I do need to take more pictures, maybe when
I take a break from digging daylilies. Boy, I hope it's not too early for some of the
stuff I've been doing. I hope, I hope. A freeze would really put me in warp drive with trying to protect everything.

Blooming in concert with the daffodils are the flowering pear trees. There are several
planted for their white blossoms. Creeping phlox shows its colors before the daffodils
have finished.
