Thanks for the nice comment Michele. Things are beginning to pop here.
I can't believe how quickly. In some years, after warm days and heavy rain,
I could almost believe I could hear the buds popping in the wooded areas.

Are the little blue flowers "Star of David"?? or maybe it's "Star of Bethlehem"??

Your gardens are beautiful to say the least. Stunning and glorious. Beautiful pictures also. Thanks so much for sharing them, Mona

No, it is not Star of Bethlehem. I have millions of those, and can't get rid of them.
When I tried digging them up, teeny tiny little bulbs that I couldn't see remained and just
made more. Also if I dropped one, more again.

I'll see if I can find it with google. Had a hard time finding it when I looked it up long ago.
The fragrance is unbelievable. I pick one just to sniff it. I did read once that it was a
nuisance plant, but this plant is about the size of a teacup in diameter. So, not a nuisance
here. It's about three inches tall. Have had it several years.

Many thanks Mona. Glad to hear you enjoyed the photos.

I found it Mona. It is Spring Starflower (Ipheion uniflorum).
Wikipedia has a better photo than I managed to get, except mine is not white.
It does have a blue line of color in the middle of the petal though like Wikipedia.

Wikipedia says the grass-like leaves have the scent of onion. I will check out that
scent tomorrow. Had not noticed that. Imagine something with such a good
fragrance coming out of onion scented leaves.

I was given some of these many years ago by a wonderful lady. I haven't seen them this year. Maybe they survived. I'lll check. They are sooooooo pretty. I kinda favor the smaller blooms. Oh, did you say yours as big as a teacup??? Mine are anywhere near that big. about a quarter maybe. With a bluish white bloom. I can't smell so I don't know about that. I miss that dearly.
Shirlee, what is the daylily in your avatar?? It's so pretty.

Blessings, Mona

I meant the plant (entire clump) is the size of a teacup. Sorry for lack of
clarity before.

The daylily in the avatar is Prissy Girl by Frank Smith. Newly acquired
last year, and every bloom was really nice. Surprised me to no end to
even see it bloom that well after going through the mail.

This has been the busiest spring that I can ever remember, not even
counting in all of the distractions from some home maintenance, and other things.

So, here I am catching up. It rained today, much needed, and I had time to get some
photos together.

I will begin with some flowering trees, shrubs, etc., and then get to the actual
garden and daylily bed layout, preparing for the daylily bloom season's photos
to come later. This continues the tour to familiarize you with the surrounding
plantings.

Azaleas this time. I don't know the names except the purple ones
are Herbert.

Shirlee, your place is gorgeous! You have so much color. You have done a good job of using the color from the foliage of trees and shrubs in the landscape. I especially like the row of purple and white azaleas with the redbud tree and greenery in the background, Please keep sharing your pictures with us!

Thank you so much Doris. When the purple and white azaleas finish blooming, a row of pink ones bloom
later, along with the lilac, and a blood red exbury azalea. Most of the azaleas have been cut back by half,
so they should bloom better next year. They tend to get a bit leggy without the pruning.

Thanks Bobbie for that nice response. Yeah, it's large, several acres.
It does take quite a bit of work, and this spring has been the worst
for busy since everything did its thing a month early. Messed up
our usual time schedule for work to be done. Not used to going from
winter to summer temps.

Also the daylily seedlings really got us behind in work. Far too many
of them to plant. Almost 2100. I will never cross that many again. Never!

Really beautiful! The mixed azaleas are especially pretty, as is the shot of azelea with dark leafed coral bell. I don't think I have ever seen a long hosta edging like you have! Very nice!

Shirlee, I thoroughly enjoyed all your photos. Everything looks so well maintained and how wonderful it is to see your photos without seeing a neighbor's house. East TN is so beautiful. I used to live there but I now live in Middle TN in a subdivision. So many of the photos I take have someone else's house showing, I love the woods in the background of many of your photos. Do you have problems with deer? 2100 baby daylily seedlings!!! You have a lot of work in your future. Thanks so much for brightening my day. P,ease post more pictures.

Shirlee, Your place is goregous, this being said really isn't enought. WOW!!! I'd love to see this in person. I love the shrubs and they are the best friend a gardener can have. They ususally require little attention once established. Your everygreens are wonderful and they show signs of a great deal of attention along the way.

I can only imagine the time in planting that many Hostas but they have got to be beautiful.

You have spent alot of time I'm sure, but you are certainly being rewarded with a lot of beauty this year. Way to GO!!! Hurray! Hurray!

Oh.......

the PINK wisteria!

Makes me weep. That is the tree that I purchased. Lived about 10 years then went kaput. ;-(

Well, the root stock is still alive so I let that vine up the stake but I have lost the PINK part.

I am really drooling, now, Shirlee!!!

2100 seedlings? Pieceacake! Just dig trenches, lay them on one side, fill in and mother nature stands them up in just a few days. Oh, you need to tag them too. Hmmmph! Glad it's you instead of me!!! I can't even seem to get my seeds planted in the germination bed!

Thank you Julie, the hosta row was accomplished by merely setting the clumps
on the ground. Not planted at all. Then just let them do what they do best.
