Unfortunately, Gene (gasrocks) doesn't post anymore and we never did determine which "mother of thousands" he was referring to. There is no way any Kalanchoe that I'm aware of could be invasive in OH, where any stray plants would be frozen to death over winter.

I'd be happy to send some for postage, if this is the specific one you want:
Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe 'Houghtonii')

Could also send some of this:
Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe delagoensis)

This one was anything but invasive @ my house, failing to survive over last winter or the winter before, I forget which winter did it in. Had for 2-3 yrs, it never spawned any babies:

K. tomentosa & K. humilis. The tan humilis leaves are from time in the sun all day. I wasn't as crazy about that coloring so I moved it to morning-only sun to get the blue back.



K. tomentosa isn't as amenable to being petted. The leaves fall off so easily.


Cute little K. luciae is trying to outgrow this tiny pot, as expected.

Those fangs can take root, in addition to roots & plantlet forming at the petiole of a removed leaf. A fascinating plant to experiment with & observe. I sent almost all of the babies away last year that I'd made over the previous few years. Time to make a few more. The older ones have been prone to suddenly dying, which probably actually takes months and I just wasn't able to see anything going wrong, I think from thirst while inside for winter.

It looks like babies that form from a more mature leaf might start making some fangs at a younger age. Fascinating!

Oh, I never visited house plant forum, good to know that the wick watering works for you, it is just too much for me with the succulents, and the wicked system also too small for my fruit barrels, I set up a water dripping system for my fruit trees, I considered fail as the dripping volume / speed were not stable, but I believe I still can use the dripping system/setup when I am traveling

Just finished reading through the wick watering thread, it is strange that the flapjack can grow well in that situation. Usually that method will work well for tropical plants or plants that like a lot of moisture like Hoyas, but your health flapjack is a proof that it works..

I have a similar fascination with it, sharing others' skepticism but still wanting to see if it would work. So far, so good, about a year later. It is a regular clay pot, nylon string, ground dirt, sauce jar.

Really hoping to see some bloom on this K. laciniata this winter.

I need to harvest this stem soon if I want to see these blooms saved from frost. Something has laid eggs.


When K fed stems turn into a question mark like this, inflorescence will be visible soon.


Can't get enough of these pink edges.


First K. blossfeldiana inflorescences have been spotted on a plant still outside pretending to be a tree in a mini garden. I don't think you can see them in the pic, but I can tell in person.
