I've been looking at kalanchoes with interest (don't have any) so stopped by a greenhouse today and saw a couple I like. M I later found this in our database with much better color, K. Humilis. Would bright light intensify the markings? The greenhouse was quite dark.


The other had a interesting corky texture that doesn't appear in our database under K. Orgyalis

Yes, more light will intensify the markings. How weird, I was just taking a pic of mine yesterday evening! Side that has been toward the sun since going outside a few weeks ago:

I've only had that for less than a year, so it's still a brand new plant to me, but the same thing happened last summer. After I eased it into the sun for most of the day, the color was fantastic, very dramatic.

These blooms were a faded pastel color inside, but have intensified after going back outside.


Same with 'Katapifa' blooms.


I can't stop making 'Fang' babies. I ran out of places to stick them in pots so I put a few in the ground and they are still looking good.

Agree with the statement, somehow all sort of Kalanchoe also not appreciated, too bad that I am one of them, whenever heard of Kalanchoe then immediately I think of mother of millions. I only have 2, 1 is flapjack that I bought out of curiosity when some member mentioned that it can grow a lot of white powder. Now I've seen the powder and I want to see how big this kalanchoe can grow, it has almost tripled the size in just a few months. And another kalanchoe that I don't know the ID, I got it as a bonus from a seller.
From time to time I see a lot of beautiful kalanchoe sold at a very reasonable price, K. tomentosa is definitely one of them, I enjoy looking at them, but just do not have interest to buy, maybe the purchasing department in my brain is still focus on cactus, haworthia and aloe

It's normal that people would have differences in the specific plants that each feels the urge to capture. I don't want to gather many prickly plants, but enjoy looking at them in other people's pics.

Pretty sure this one is K. blossfeldiana and certainly what I call a florist Kalanchoe. It was a funeral plant for a neighbor's husband. The widow gave it to my Mother because she had too many plants to take care of at the time. It's been hanging around for more than a couple of decades since. I don't find it terribly appealing, but the hummingbirds do. It usually begins blooming in the winter and always has an etoliated lean by the time it gets moved outside. It's actually looking good right now in spite of that and the hummingbirds found it the first day. Not too much blooming for them right now. Spring is slow this year.

Beautiful! Agree with the ID, and I've seen hummingbirds visiting my Kalanchoe blooms too.

After I consider myself "successful" in growing the green K. Flapjack on the left, I dare to buy a variegated version of it, much much more expensive compare to the green one.

Beautiful! I would be curious to know if the care is the same. I haven't see one of the colorful ones to try yet.

K. blossfeldiana keeps blooming, but only the red. I'm not sure it's exactly the same as all of the other colors that I have.


K. humilis was moving more toward a tan color in sun almost all day so I've pulled it back to just morning sun. I prefer the bluish color.

I have found the amount of light that produces my fav colors for this plant, a few hours in the AM, then shade. K. delagoensis/tubiflora.


It's all about the stem.

'Katapifa' looks like it is going to bloom again.


Usually something so pretty is not so tough, but variegated K. fed could win any beauty contest or handle any tough situation. I love this plant, I have it in various pots and at this time of year, in ground landscaping too.


Next to some Angelonia and other little things that I propagated.

When I grew this plant, I gave it alot more light. I liked the plant when it entirely took on a pink / tan color.

Did you get tired of it? It is fun to observe the phases a plant can cycle through, then use that to create more of what you really love. After about 5 yrs of putting individuals in a bunch of different settings, it starts to feel like you're getting to know it, depending on the rate of growth. But when one has to take them inside over winter, the observations are always interrupted and short-lived. I have had plenty of these in much more sun over the years, but the purple stem is a pleasant surprise from this porch plant in just a few hours of AM sun.

This plant demands to be photographed often, K. laciniata.

I have a few kalanchoe but this the biggest.
The name maybe tugela cliff but not sure

In almost total shade, K. blossfeldiana grows the big "florist plant" leaves.
