Your photo sure does make me glad to have bought OCJ from James. That's just so pretty. I sure do like:

Cooler Than ME
LIttle Red Bamtan
Viva Pinata
Walk in Space

I wouldn't want to decide between these four. Walk in Space is an unknown since I couldn't find a picture. But the foilage is awesome! Viva Pinata is a wonderful eye. Cooler Than Me, is REally COOL! and LIttle Red Bamtan is sooooo red. Michele, your photos are beautiful.

Fred, I'm in no hurry for the plant. I'm really really broke! I've got to sale some before I buy anymore so your time frame will probably work out just right for me.

Thanks for all the beautiful plants, now I've got to get rid of this itch to buy them all, now, today, as in I want them but it's just got to wait. Besides, I don't need anymore right now. Addictions hurt! Green Grin! Drooling Whistling now lets see if i can find a way to buy just one, but which one, hmmmm good, I can have one but I can't decide on one so I just won't get any!

You all are killing me! But it sure is fun, Mona

Beautiful daylilies! That WALK IN SPACE is really unusual even before it blooms! And I'm so glad to see a picture of CHORUS OF ANGELS where the teeth are less prominent -- makes it OK that I can't have it right away. Hilarious! And I really like CALAMITY JANE too. Thanks for posting these, Michele!

Wonderful!!! I'm getting my babies in and Hopefully!!! I'll get some blooms this year. I really getting some good ones from James so I'm very excited to get them.

After seeing the picture of Walk in Space, it isn't one that I would buy just for the bloom but the foilage is so different that I might get it latter on.

Cooler Than Me is one that I'd get quickly. I'm reallly into the "Pleating" or is it "Pinching" that it does and Viva Pinata is one that I'd get too. I really love the eye on it and the color is soo cooland it does the "Pinching" too.

This has been a slow day for me. After I go somewhere I'm always down for the count for a day or too. My pain level goes from a 5 to a 8 and it just stops me. Plus I've had sinus problems for over a week now, and it just nasty. My head feels like it is the size of of a whoopper pumpkin!! Atleast my head isn't hurting it just has that stuffed up feeling. So, I'm taking the day.

I sure did enjoy beingwith my other 3 grandbabies. The oldest little boy is now 5. He was our first grandchild so I'm sure anyone that has the special children know just how special the first one is. The 3 year old little girl is the sweetest and has that angel voice. She calls me "Grannnnnnn-ieeee" and runs and jumps into my arms. the youngest little boy will be 2 the first of June. He grins from ear to ear and has the biggest blue eyes and blonde hair. They all have blue eyes and blonde hair but his are reallly blue!! He sneaks around and hits the older ones for no reason, so he gets in trouble regularly. The others are really great kids and he's just in a stage that he'll outgrow. the baby one loves to wear other people shoes. He can put on his daddy's size 15 and run across the living room with them on. How???? I don't know but he does. I'd break my neck!!

When I got home, Emma, the 4 year old little girl lives with us, told me that she just didn't like me being gone. She misses me and from now on I need to be here unless she is with her daddy. So, I'm sure the next time I go, I'll have to ask her first!

It's a beautiful day here so I hope everyone else is having a great day. Mona

Not much today, it was 48º this morning and things weren't really open. I got a few photos, but didn't stay too long today so didn't get photos after it warmed up.

Wow Michele, It's hard to find a favorite in all of these beauties. I like all the eyes, or I better since most all of my new ones have eyes but I think "Sailing at Dawn" is my favorite.

I got an email from James. My plants are in the mail! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Is SAILING AT DAWN really that pink? I think that's a terrific color! Those are really beautiful flowers and even though I'm not that fond of the doubles, SHADOWS WILL FALL looks spectacular! I've had a really short scape on FABULOUS BLACK PEARL for quite a while now, and late yesterday afternoon I suddenly noticed it had partially opened, although not all the way, so I scrambled around and collected pollen from it. But now I'm wondering if I should even try using pollen from a short scape. Does anyone know if that would alter the genetics if it's a short scape (like maybe 10")? I'd really like to find out before I try using the pollen.

Betty,
We are using the pollen from the short scapes. There are a lot around here for whatever reason this year, maybe because they scapes are earlier than usual Shrug!
I know some are because they had been divided and moved this past fall and others are because they are new. Sometimes the first year in your garden the scapes will be shorter and the following year they should be normal.
I don't see why it would change the pollen any.

I'm not sure if I'd call SAD pink. To me it's a dark mauvy color or a pinkish purple. I haven't seen it the color in the hybridizers photo (plum and grape), just what's in my photo.

Thanks Michel.! So I'll go ahead and use it -- if I ever get the chance! I have several scapes that are a few inches to about a foot tall, but I guess I was hoping for more at this point. We're going to be gone for a week during the first ten days of May, so I'm hoping everything will NOT bloom then!

Edit: Over and over again, when I go back and see a previous post of mine apparently good ole' Microsoft has changed the spelling! I just saw that my "scapes" had been changed to "scopes" again. I just changed it back, and hopefully it won't change it again...

I talked last year with someone about using polen from a bad bloom. The genes are the same from a good bloom as they arefrom a bad bloom. It really makes sence when you think about it. If the genes changed with the greatness of the bloom, we would never have 2 daylilies just alike. Ok, I'm stepping off into deep water here. If I'm wrong, maybe some of our resident experts will step in before I get this totally wrong. But, to my understanding, the pollen can be used no matter how the bloom looks.

Ok, I'll stop now! Mona

Interesting discussion this could be Mona.

I have thought as you at times. But then, what about the tomato grower who only saves seeds from the biggest or best tomato, not its sister on the vine that is weaker?

And haven't we heard something about a better chance of getting a poly when the pollen is taken from a poly bloom?

But then, what about all those who get a sib of a great new breakthrough in daylilies because it too has the same gene background?

Marry the ugly sister? Sticking tongue out

The more I learn, the more I see I need to learn more. Or something like that!

Yes, BB me too. Just when I think I know something, along comes a very minor little bitty something that throws the whole thing in the gutter and I have to start over! But that's ok. I learned a long time ago, a very long time ago, that learning something new keeps me happy and interested in life itself. How boring the world of daylilies would be if the plant had never evolved beyond the first.
