We usually have a mild winter, so I don't have to worry overly much about storing the containers or digging them in. Do group and cover with old sheets when ice is expected, but that's about it for all except the Amaryllis. Currently have variegated Hydrangea, Iris, Caryopteris Snow Fairy, Daylilies, Anouk Spanish Lavender, Lavender Lantana, Fescue Grass, Amaryllis, and Dianthus in containers.
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

I grow all my outdoor plants in containers, nothing on the ground. I have no grass in my yard, all in pavers, got to save water being in California. Most of my plants are drought tolerant, as we do have triple digit dry heat here come summertime. So about 80% of my perennials are succulents.

I also grow:
Lantana - slows down in winter, and comes back quite well in Spring
Lavender stoechas Anouk - this one I got from Costco in 2010 and it was grown like a topiary.
Gaillardias - Arizona Sun, Arizona Red Shades, Mesa Yellow - very resilient, blooms slowed down a bit in winter but manages to give one or two, and come spring, actively back to the blooming phase
Dwarf Schefflera and variegated schefflera
China doll plant - started like a little plant, but grew actively and has made several stems in the container it is in. Very prolific grower.
Hostas - Wide Brim, Aureomarginata, and one noid, all three in the shadiest side of my patio.
Achillea Moonshine or Golden Yarrow - very drought tolerant, love their fern-like leaves during Spring.
Dwarf Agapanthus - also very drought tolerant
Dicentra Spectabilis
Astilbe
Some daffodils and hyacinths
Tri-color pelargonium -lovely red blooms late spring and as the name implies lovely tri-color leaves.
Mini-cymbidium orchids
Chlorophytum comosum or spider plants

New perennials for this year that I got:
For this year I got 2 Salvias, Salvia subrotunda and Salvia Iodantha - still learning more about it. So far have noticed that it prefers to be in the shade, but will tolerate full sun as long as it is windy cool. Otherwise it pouts and looks almost dead under the sun. But revives well once put back in shade. I am still not certain if it hated the sudden downpours we had a week ago, it did pout, but bounced back once it had a chance to dry up. So am not sure if it hated being cold and wet..or just being too wet.

Kniphofias - Kniphofia sarmentosa, Kniphofia caulescens, Kniphofia hirsuta fire dance;
Dwarf Euphorbia
Lamparanthus Pink Kaboom
Verbascum bombyciferum arctic summer
Oscularia caulescens

New bulbs that I am trying now are:
Dwarf Eucomis
Hymenocallis Ismene Festalis

I agree about those lime/chartreuse green pots, springcolor. Stellar. Green is my favorite color and that shade is just about my favorite shade of green. Thumbs up

tarev, what a great list. I don't even remember the number of succulent pots I had out there in good old CA. Lovey dubby

What a fine selection of those others. I have many of them here and some are in pots. All did well this winter, but, of course, we had snow and ice on the ground for all of about 24 hrs. total the entire winter. I kid you not.

Shrug!

Nice, nice. I will end up with more containers this year too due to my heavy trigger finger when it comes to ordering. Glare Green Grin!

I have a peony in a pot that I stuck back behind the rain barrel and it's doing as well as the one I have in the ground. Except the ground plant is getting ready to bloom. Shrug!

I've grown these in containers...

Agastaches (Wintered Over in zone 6)
Heuchera (Wintered Over in zone 6)
Liatris (Wintered Over in zone 6)
Bee Balm (Wintered Over in zone 6)
Helenium - Sneezeweed (Wintered Over in zone 6)

Can't think of others I've grown in containers at this late hour right now.

I grow a lot of annuals (plants not hardy to zone 6) in containers every year, but sometimes grow perennials in containers.

Of the Agastaches that survive our zone 6 Winters (year after year) is Agastache rupestris. That one is a sure winner for me! Hurray! Thumbs up

Lovey dubby Agastache rupestris. I need that one. The one I ordered arrived dead. Angry They did refund the money though. They said it "doesn't ship well". I don't know since that was my only experience with ordering it but I'll try again soon.

I am not as adventurous as some of you. I have border lilies in containers with Heuchera
Dwarf Clematis Bijou and a hosta ( small)
I have carnation but its not doing well
Astilbe Younique White and Silvery Pink

Garden Gate mag. sent a card for a free booklet on containers and plantings. I went for it and was charged for a years subscription. I used to take the mag so I'll keep it.
The container booklet was great.
I didnt know 5 plants in a 18 inch container would survive.
