Oh, your Max tenuifolia is blooming already, nice. No bud in sight yet here.
I like the Den Little Green Apples.

Around here, rain changed to graupel, to sleet and back to rain. I am glad that there is so far no accumulation.

I only see one other bud on my max. When I bought it, it was covered. But it's been looking better and better since I sunk it in bark in a deeper pot.

Brrrrr. You people are making me cold! It's 68 on my porch right now, and while they have been predicting rain every couple of days for the past two weeks, the "big" event last weekend gave us a grand total of (.17"). All we're getting is wind! Crying

I have to look at the bright side here, my rainwater containers are full to the brim. Full containers are sufficient for watering almost 4 weeks under Winter conditions/watering inside the greenhouse. So .17 '' would be a problem for me after a while.

Ursula, my containers are mostly full too, but from April till Oct. we get 0 rain, and our city water is chunky! I would put in an RO system IF I had a place to put one! While you folks in the East are looking for warm weather and sunshine, So. Cal. residents (except in the burn areas) are doing rain dances.

I hear you Carol! Can't look for perfect condition I guess.... Smiling

Thought I post my Vanda David Gardner. This is the keiki which I had separated from the mother plant a few years ago. The mother plant just finished blooming, the flowers were huge this Winter.
The blooms on the much smaller "baby" are almost mature now. They always take a couple of weeks to attain their full size from the time the buds open. Still, they are slightly smaller than its mother's.

And - I had to move the plant out from its normal spot to get the whole plant into focus, including the roots which are hanging down to the floor. ( Or normally drop into Begonias, which benefit from the daily floods.)

A second, compact spike is now open on the Oerstedella centradenia.
I am glad I mounted the plant, it was not a happy camper when it was potted up.

Will now post some more minis and then read Kathy's news.

Yes, Todd - any better news on the Vandaceous stuff at work?
And thanks.

Ursula,
That Vanda is so pretty, love the colors...how tall is it, excluding the root mass?
Kathy, hang in there, spring is on the way, I found this on my walk around the yard today.

Lindsey, without roots, this Vanda is a bit taller than 2 feet.

Nice pics Kathy and congrats on your spiking Cym., Ursula. Oh if Spring would only be around the corner. We were in the low seventies on Sunday so I took the Cyms. out for a hosing. I might be waking up to snow and sleet in the morning. Glare

Lots of wet heavy snow out there this AM. Area schools are all closed. We had a quick power outage and BINGO! the generator went on! The orchids will always be safe now. I've been worrying for years.

Yesterday I saw at Home Depot and COSTCO they are selling fully blooming gorgeous Cyms for 19.99 and some are huge. I did not get one, as I don't want anymore orchids for awhile. It is looking like a jungle around here! FYI

My HD doesn't sell cyms, but since I like the miniatures, I doubt I'd buy them anyway. I find some of my cyms at smaller sellers but my fav treat is a Santa Barbara order. However the shipping is very high. I have a wishlist gleaned from the Japanese Orchid Show though so I have a few names stuck in my brain.

I agree, Santa Barbara Orchids is a great place to buy Cyms. Btw my Cym Showgirl 'Malibu' ( from SBO) is considered a teacup Cymbidium, it is truly small and flowers in a small pot. And it usually spikes in late Summer.

Thanks Laurel.
Kathy, it sure is good to have that back-up.
Ever since we bought our generator, we had no more power outages. We need to start it soon, just to make sure it works.

Best thing I've spent $ on besides orchids!
Still snowing-looks like over a foot.
