One last look at L. purpurata werkhauserie 'Monte' X C. gaskelliana coerulea. The flowers are beginning to fade. I bought it at the orchid show a couple of weeks ago.

Nice show Jim! I thought my epis were big! They are only about 4 ft. tall. Is yours in the ground, or in a pot?

Wonderful show, Jim. Thanks for posting them. I don't think your Den is Dendrobium anosmum which has a purple center not as dark. I think this is a hybrid.
Encyclia Green Hornet is fine for the name or Prosthechea Green Hornet. The ones I posted were the parent cross.

Very nice, Jim. Interesting lip pattern on the Laelia purpurata werkhauseri x.
Btw there is no mistaking the very typical scent of Dendrobium anosmum/superbum. Do you smell something in the direction of sweet Raspberries and Rhubarb?

Carol, that epi just hangs from the roof of my lanai. No dirt, bark or anything else. The roots are about to touch the concrete floor but I can't hoist it up much higher. It is really getting hard to move into the garage when we get a cold night in winter. You should see me trying to haul it around the side of the house. This picture was taken a couple of years ago.

Ursula, I have a Dendrobium anosmum so I know the fragrance you're talking about. This one has no smell that I can detect. The bloom color is also a little different. It does have some similarities so I think Kathy is right about it being a hybrid. The canes curved and looped for a couple of years making it look strange. If it were a palm, I would have added manganese but I've never seen an orchid do this before. If you look at the picture, you can still see some of those strange looping canes. I gave it lots of sun and daily mistings with a weak fertilizer solution and it came out of it. Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while.

Jim : Rolling my eyes.

It is a very beautiful plant and it loves your care. Regarding the Epidendrum radicans - so much for potting up Orchids, tucking in roots nice and neat. Smiling It sure looks happy rambling about like that!

Here is Microterangis hariotiana, a charming, small to compact growing plant opening a bunch of pretty chains of little stars.
