I had a minor disaster with orchids this week on top of everything else (no power, phone, internet, the "end" of cubits, helping put on an iris show). I found some yucky mold growing on my office wall. Last year I bought a dehumidifier that did the trick. So when the electricity came on, I used it. Only I forgot I had waited till the orchids were out. I can't put them out this year until some stones are poured level under my shelves where the tables will live for the summer (which should be any day). So the first day the dehumidifier was on, I noticed it was very warm in my office at night and thought it was due to the temps and bright light outside.
I moved some plants away from the windows. The second day all the blooms in the room wilted and a small hoya's leaves turned bright yellow!
It dawned on me that the dehumidifier was blowing hot air into the room so it was probably in the 90s!!! I don't think any will die. A few even liked it, but it was something I wouldn't recommend!!!
