When we bought this house, there was a little garden down at the end of a rear driveway. It was a mess. Overgrown privet, bamboo nandina, tree saplings galore, and I kept finding red bricks buried in the ground. I dug up all the bricks, gathered up a few I found tossed in a pile hidden from sight, and washed them all off. Most were whole and in great shape. So I built this elevated planter for a focal liriope arrangement in the larger garden at the other end of that driveway. Picture was last year. The liriope inside and on the ground have gotten larger now. They're happy in/around it. Smiling

Thank you for your positive male perspective, Vic! My husband wasn't on-board with this one. Smiling , but it reminds me of a wishing well and I've grown to quite like it. I'm trying hard for a natural, woodsy look in this garden so I use my red oak and white oak leaves dropping off all the trees back there each year for mulch. They just about break down in time for the next batch to fall to ground. I just have to sweep them up off the pathway we laid in. Beats the heck out of bagging them up.

I love what you're doing, Peggy! Finding old red brick in good condition was quite a find too. That Angelina will be drooping over the edges quickly. I put a small bit in my greenhouse, and it took over one whole side of the greenhouse in one season. A friend is hybridizing Angelina to grow a bit smaller and to be more controlled about the growth. When he has it marketed, it will be worth buying.

Very helpful and beautiful. I can't emagine the efforts it took to transform a stadium into a forest.see link below.

Someone grew a forest in the middle of a football stadiums.

Living in a century old home, interesting things have been dug up as my gardens expanded. These are from the old bricks used on our street, and removed when our street was lowered in the 60's. We moved here in 1990. I have 5 street bricks and use them in my gardens.

There are two in this garden....

These sort of create a 4 inch grade change in this garden (of weeds D'Oh! Very busy with personal stuff this Summer, so weeding was put on the back burner Sighing! )

Hello bloominholes2fill...Dana...I bet you could write a book on all the things the digs exposed on your property. The bricks a piece of history. Living in a home with so much history is interesting . Can't make out what's printed on the bricks? Like what you did with them. I bet a lot has been documented on the property over the years.

Sometimes the way everything decides to break down at once in my home I think My home is over the hill sorta speak...it's all just rebuilding/ replacing ...one day at a time.

I have a friend who lives in a homestead property by her family. The home has been changed from gas lights to electricity. Running and hot water added. All the little necessities that make the home up to date.

The weeds I didn't get to this year either and OMG am I gonna pay next spring.

Lovely butterfly dish beautiful colors.

Thank you Vicki and Bumplbea! This used to be farm land, according to my neighbor. He's in his 90's Lovey dubby and he enjoys history, so he has shared a lot of info about this area. The bricks are stamped "Metropolitan Block Canton" and maybe an "OH" Shrug! This neighbor has an entire pathway made out of them. He said that he and his son sat on the porch and watched them as they lowered the street. Smiling How fun that would have been, but I would have been an infant, though. Hilarious!
