I guess we should call it The Surprise Orchid as it's common name-sorta like The Surprise Symphony.

That Gongora does look like a Stanhopea Kathy. Nice. Love to see a full photo of chocolate drop!

Wow, what a start! That gongora needs to be hanging beside my stanhopeas. Great show, Ursula. What is the difference between that wonderful Cirrhopetalum and a bulbo?

Janice, nice Haiku Mint.

Since all of my orchids are stuffed into the garage I took at look at the terrestials and found this bamboo orchid, Arundina graminifolia, in bloom.

We get a respite for the weekend but a new cold front sends us into the upper thirties on Monday. I'm spending all of my free time thinking of ways to increase global warming. Seems like what we're doing now isn't working. Sticking tongue out

I like "Haiku Mint'!! And nice Arundina!

Jim, I don't know exactly why some Orchid taxonomists list again Cirrhopetalum as a separate Genus and others call Cirrhopetalum a section of the Bulbophyllum Genus. Confused Surely there are specific characteristics.

Thanks, Ursula. When it comes to these names, it is not uncommon that I'm confused. They do the same thing with palms and I imagine other plants as well.

Dropping by to say "Hi!" and share a bloomer sent to me from Kathy this past summer. We are calling this a Hanukkah Cymbidium. First it's name...Cymbidium Purple Temple. Hilarious! It has eight flowers, like the candles on a menorah, and every day after sundown a new flower opens up. It's a miracle!! Rolling on the floor laughing Thanks again, Kathy. I'll keep you posted on the progress.Thumb of 2010-12-03/Maypoplaurel/b9b120

Looking back through the thread again, I love Cattleya mossiae 'Campo Grande' x labiata and Janice's Lc Emily Clarkson.

Very nice Laelia purpurata X alba, Bree. Good job.

Laurel, is that the one I tried to coax with a pocket knife? It's gorgeous.

Laurel, that is too great!!! My Hannukah Purple Temple will probably be a New Years Purple Temple, like me-not very traditional! Thanks for posting my former languishing cym. It looks so happy and I'm proud I done it right by giving it to you to nurse back to health. YOU are the miracle, girl! It sure was great to see the three of you in Jim's post (Floofuary Orchids 2010 Nov 3)!
