I have just treated myself to a beautiful statue, but the 'footprint' of it is pretty small and I need a sturdy base so it doesn't fall over too easily. I was thinking of using loctite to glue it onto a large (16") paver stone, but a little more elevation would be nice. Any suggestions? My budget is limited (after splurging on this piece Rolling my eyes. )

It's beautiful Hetty!

I'm wondering if you could use concrete block as wide or as high as you need it and then you could either paint the block or plant flowers at the base. That's the cheapest thing I can think of at the moment.

Hetty that is so beautiful!

I wonder what more than one paver would do to raise it. Maybe set 3 of the same size at angles, glued together. Or 3 or 4 of graduated sizes, starting with the largest at the bottom. Some pavers are pretty thick and would give it height if several were glued together.

So gorgeous.

Very good idea! Let me discuss this with DH.
The statue is made of a green stone but with a lot of light spots in it which is what I liked about it. It is called 'Movement of Life' and is from Africa.

Funny, I was just naming it myself and I called it 'Dance of Life'.

It means that the sculptor was able to convey his intentions very well, I think! Thumbs up

If a sculpture speaks to you, then the sculptor is successful.
Same with art of any kind.

Hetty, maybe some concrete posts under a paver? Like the kind used for foundation repair.

Might not be a market in your area. We have a LOT of pier and beam foundation housing and the repairs often use cylindrical sections of concrete. The ones used at my house were about five inches in diameter and 12 or 14 inches tall. May not be practical, was the first thought in my head when visualizing regular pavers or stacked pavers. The art work is fluid and might look better with a bit of curve to the supports.

I actually would like the base to be as plain as possible. We're at the moment looking at stacking some concrete pavers.... there will likely be plants at the base of the statue anyway so it will be mostly hidden. My DH is concerned about the stability of the piece.

Hetty, is it mounted on that white flat piece that shows in the picture?

If so, what is that white piece made of?
I can understand his concern, mine too.
Mounting that white flat piece might be the answer - or could be the problem.

The flat white piece was a paving stone and no - it is at the moment not mounted on that. They had it glued on to that with loctite but it came off as they moved it. As you see it was then sitting on top of a pedestal but I would not want it that high, the maximum I would want it off the ground is about 8 inches. A circular base of about 15 inches diameter would seem to be ideal, which is why we are considering putting pavers on top of each other (with loctite). I appreciate you all are helping me think this through.

You have sand but I was thinking that a piece of metal bar (re-bar??) running up through a tight hole in the center of the stacked pavers and down into the ground. But that metal bar would have to be screwed into the bottom of the sculpture somehow.

I don't know, but I am sure Bruce can figure it out better than I can. *Blush*

Frankly, the statue could very well have a hole in the bottom and that surely would help with stability. I'll have to go check it out.
