Hello All
My name is Jayne Mae and I live in Colorado. I am a native Californian that moved to this beautiful state 28 years ago. I must say that I absolutely love the seasons. My work career started as a Forestry Technician for the USFS. I worked the fire crews and had a lot of fun in my youth. I currently work at a power plant as a Fleet Maintenance/Financial Coordinator. 25 years this summer. My, where do the years go?
I consider myself an orchid newbie as I only have about 25 orchids. All of the little darlings reside in my sun room. They are most precious to me as they are my sunshine on cold snowy days. I look forward to new friendships and shared knowledge. Thank you all for being here.

Hi Jaynemae. That is a beautiful orchid. You will have a great time here, it is a very friendly, helpful group. CO is a beautiful state, I have a SIL that lives there. What kind of orchids do you have?

Welcome Jayne Mae!!!!
How long have you been growing orchids? That phalaenopsis is unusual, the way the petals are so open. Nice one! Is that a phaius behind it? It sounds like you have had quite an interesting career. I also feel like my orchids are precious to me and I look forward to fussing over them every day especially on those dreary New England winter days! I think you will enjoy the folks who have gathered here. I am looking forward to getting to know you and all of your orchids! Big Grin

Hi!!! I'm also a DG transplant & my dream is to go & visit Fred's gardens one day!!!
I started collecting Orchids when I was stationed in HI. I'd go to the flea market @ once a month and buy a beautiful Orchid for $5 or less. Just left them outside & they thrived & bloomed.
I brought a few back with me when I was transferred to MD. Some lived but none ever bloomed again. And eventually they were all gone.
About 5 years ago I went to the Home Show & they had orchids. I asked for one that was "easy" to take care of and a Sherry Baby followed me home. She was lonely so I found her a friend. I now have @20. Actually 2 followed me home today (from the Home Show again).
I really don't know much about Orchids, but have recently bought a couple books. I must do something correctly because most bloom at least once a year.
I do own a home in FL & we plan to relocate there next year. I can already see Orchids hanging from my trees!!!

And, in my spare time, I'm a quilter............
Blessed are the Quilters for they are the Piecemakers.

Hi! I also came over from DG, good to see the folks here & new friends too! I am a native Floridian, widowed, retired a number of years & now living in a mobile home park with a very small yard. I have 5 children scattered over the US, a
number of Grandchildren & 4 great grands! I have two large oak trees in my back yard where my orchids hang out! I lost some of them in our cold winter & the others are late blooming. I have mostly Catts but a few others too. I also have a rather large collection of Amaryllis.

If someone could tell me this guys name, I'd appreciate it. He was one of my 1st orchids and his tag disappeared when I repotted him last year. His bloom spike grew in a circle so I have a cluster of the orchids.
I caught the 2nd spike so it will grow normally.

In the foreground is Epl Rioclarense "pink Lip". I liked the large "bulb" at the bottom.
Behind her is Oncidium Wills Firecracker "Red Star".

The first one is a Brassia hybrid I think. Todd, where are you?? I don't grow but a handful of these. I don't think that we can give you a definite name-more of a ballpark. There are sooo many crosses now. Great new stuff!!!!

Well, gee, thanks, everyone. I thought I had my obsessions all locked up! But, no!, now orchids are invading our space!
Originally from Massachusetts, Boston suburb and then Cape Cod.
North Carolina past 5 years.
Career in High Tech field, retired, then pursued my interest in Nursing. Retired for good now.
All that work was cutting into my time for all my hobbies! LOL. Smiling
Just wanted to add that I have never been interested in houseplants, so this is a big thing. I have always had perennial gardens and that was my central gardening focus. Nice to see beautiful flowers now...... 365/7.
The weather here is amazing. Sunshine so abundant. Easy to grow most anything. And they say it is humid here? Well, NOT here. We had far worse humidity in Mass.
Anyways, these orchids are so interesting, the learning is fun!
Nice to meet you all.........
