Believe me, I have been lazy these past two hot days. I still have things came mail order to plant and I have to move more roses for my veggie garden area but it is hot so I didn't do either. Not that it is overly hot for a Long Island summer (always hot and humid) but that it is early so I guess not aclimated to it the way I am in July and August.

But today I decided to try my hand again at melons. I used to grow them maybe 12 years or so ago. You really need to trellis them. But I got some seeds so will try afew.

I planted some of my cucumber seeds in the cellpacks. I only did one cellpack each, one for the China Longs and one for the Armenian. I thought about it and since I usually only buy one of those four pack cell packs for each varity of cucumber and I get tons of cucumbers, I figgured it would be enough. I do pick out packs that have muliple seedlings in each quarter and just plant them all together. So I put multiple seeds in each part and will just plant whatever comes up. And I have more seed if I should need it for some reason.

The adventures in cucumber growing begin. Well, I do already have cucumber plants growing from seedlings bought at the nursery.

I can't figgure out how I will rig up something high enough for them to climb that they will be really happy. From what I read they climb ten feet or more. I can't reach that high. Rolling on the floor laughing

The regular string beans are fine on 6 foot trellis.

Seeds came today in the mail again including my Avara Melons. 10 seeds in there. Wow, no room for error. I planted them in a 4 container cell pack. Better to start them this way and then plant them out after they come up.

I got my order today from Bluestone Perennials. Got three good size Winterberries and two Baptisia Australis, and a huge coneflower. Can't believe how cheep these plants were. This is the biggest Coneflower I have gotten all year and it was only 4.47. The other plants are all a foot tall at least. Thumbs up

I ordeered some seed from eThaiGrocer five months ago. No answer to the first 4 emails, then he said his office was flooded out and he had an accident.

That was four weeks ago ("you should receive them in 10-15 business days") and nothing yet.

True, they ARE coming all the way from Thailand ...

If there was a flood then his whole business could have washed out to see or at least everything in it. Takes a long time to recover, he will probably have to start all over. Gracious, if it were not for bad luck he would not be having none!

I ordered seed from Japan before and it always takes close to a month for anything to arrive. Whistling

Well, my Bluestone order did arrive this morning. Unpacked it and guess what? That Salvia is deffinately NOT indigo Spires as I had been warned here. At this stage I am going to contact them and make them refund my money. Then I just give up. Just not going to have Indigo Spires this year. I simply do not feel like ordering plants fromn anywhere now that it is June already.

I was able to get some really nice Salvias earlier from Santa Rosa so I do have salvias. And I got the annual blue bedding kind locally. So I am not in bad shape. Just that the indigo spires is so dramatic and goes in the same spot each year. Oh well. I think of someting else to put up there.
