Janice, I do usually do that when I get the mail orders. I just have no luck with those pots. Do you think I should dig it up now and re-soak it? I will not bother with the ones from e-bay, this person sent me two hosta's in a peat pot and they just have never grown, now they have slug bites all over them. Also I bought a 'Loyalist', I love the variegation and these Hosta are slug resistant, but the one she sent me is just a dark solid green, don't have no idea what it is except maybe a seedling. So basically the Hosta are not true to name, I think she grew these from seed. Sad

I got Pica Bella for 4.47 and all the others were seven something, but that better than 20 something! Especially, Jim Dandy for 7.77, I stole that plant! Green Grin!

Susan, when a plant I really like is struggling, I will dig it out, clean off the roots and give it a nice boost soak in a liquid fertilizer bath overnight.

Hope it can help your plant. Group hug

I didn't get too much done in the garden as it rained most of the day. But the mail came really late today, after five and finially my seeds that I have been wating for from Baker Creek Heirloom seeds had arrived. I have Malabar Spinach to start now. Not a true spinach but an edible green that produces all summer. And my chinese yard long beans are here. I have three types and I will have to start them inside again as I did with my sting beans (pole beans) as they need the warmth to sprout. Those Pole beans seedlings are already transplanted outside but I am now sprouting some Spanish Musica bean seedlings. Meantime the Scarlett Runner Beans I direct sowed outside last week haven't even started to come up. The yard long beans and the Spanish Musica are all new to me, I have never grown them before.

I really have gotten back into my veggie gardening and now I am even trying new to me veggies like those beans and the spinach. Plus I have "normal" cucumbers already planted this year but am currently looking for seeds of some of the asian cucumbers to try. There are so many Chinese and Japanese cucumbers and even ones from Thialand. They don't look that much like our english cucumbers but they are supposed to taste even better. That is what the common cucumber that you buy in the store is, an english cucumber. I even want to order seeds of Armenian melon cucumber as I am feeling daring this year!

Rita,

A heads-up on those "Indigo Spires" from Bluestone. A hummingbird gardener on another site just posted that she ordered 'Indigo Spires' from them and they sent some type of old world, perennial sage. She contacted them and showed them a picture of the correct plant and they said they would re-ship the correct plant. Well when she received the replacement, it was also some type of old world, perennial sage.

Sorry for the possibly bad news, but I thought you'd want to know.

Oh no. Well, I can always send them a picture if it is wrong. It is like I am not supposed to have INDIGO SPIRES this year! I guess I will just wait and see.

Thanks Janice. But I am gonna wait and gonna plant whatever they send me. If it is wrong, I will demand my money back though. I just don't feel like trying somewhere else again. INDIGO SPIRES is an annual for me so it is only this summer that I might loose out on. I ALWAYS get it from High Country Gardens. I don't know what was with them this year not having it.

You can also get starter plants from Rich Dufresne (World of Salvias) either this year or next. You should get the right thing from him for sure.

Ha, peas are not supposed to stay alive thru the hot sweltering summer. You get your spring crop, then the peas die. Then you can do another crop of new ones in the fall if you want. Tomatoes should stay alive although I know if it gets too hot they quit setting fruit. nodding I do HAVE to get the Armenian melon cucumber as I just want to try it!

I did it, I did it !!!! I just ordered seeds. I got the Armenian Melon Cucumber and also China Long Cucumbers. Also Brocoli raab seeds and different types of pea seeds. Maybe they can ship it before the weekend and I can get them early next week. Thumbs up The peas are for a fall crop I am planning. It is the same amount for shipping (flat rate) so I figgured I would just order them now.

I opened the packet of MALABAR SPINACH seed and there seemed to be a lot of seed in there. So I direct sowed about half the packet. This way I have spare seed if for some reason they do not come up.

Then I decided my Chinese Long Beans needed to be started inside so that I can be sure they will sprout. I have Chinese Red Noddle, Chinese Green Noodle and Chinese Green Asparagus Bean so I will be conducting my own taste test of which ones taste better later in the summer. There really weren't a lot of bean seeds in each packet so I couldn't risk them not coming up.

From what I have read, since these beans are tropical, they just love the heat and produce all summer.
