The older customers seem to resent the price increases but they seem very competitive compared to other companies. All companies have to raise their prices once in a while.
The main thing right now is the coco pots, they are supposed to be planted right into the ground and biodegrade. They do not, they are horrible, my Hosta almost died because the roots were trapped inside this coco thing. They do fine as long as you re-pot them when you get them.
I also love the website, it is very user friendly and stress free, I just enjoy browsing the site and I do occasionally make a purchase when there is a good sale, gotta go check them out. Thumbs up

Thanks, Susan!

Good advice about coir pots!! That would be a great "Tip of the Day"!!!

I always have gotten plants out of those things before planting.

Root to soil contact is just critical, isn't it?

I am always surprised when companies advise you to leave them in those pots when you plant
.
Perhaps they think disturbing the roots that may have grown into the coir will set the plants back.

However, lack of root to soil contact will probably be worse, IMHO.

Right, I remove the pots too, although the Japanese Anemone arrived with a little shoot with leaves that was growing outside the pot. On DG they say to at least tear the bottom out and make sure the top isn't sticking out above the soil, but it seems simpler to just take off the whole thing. I've had bad experiences with peat pots, just don't trust any so-called biodegradables.

I got two of those Hosta in a peat pot off ebay and they are still sick looking to this day, told myself yesterday, they are going in the trash I will not be aggravated anymore. I planted the pots, I dug them up and removed the pot and still they are sick. Same with the Great Expectations I got from BlueStone last year. It started off great, but then it started going down hill and no matter what I do it continues to go down hill. Yesterday I re-potted it with some light quality potting soil. Hoping for the best. Green Grin!

Well I just put in another order with BlueStone I could not resist the 50% off, I just got a few things I was unable to afford at regular price. l got three winterberries, which are 29.95 a piece at my local nursery, I got these for 7-8.00 a piece and got a couple of Baptisia Australis and a coneflower. I am very, very happy about the winterberries! plus I will be able to purchase a couple of Sprites later and they can use this same pollinator! (jim Dandy) Hurray!

Did you try soaking it in a weak liquid fertilizer solution and water for a day?

Nice, Susan! Love Baptisia and coneflowers! Hurray! Hurray!

My second order of the season from Bluestone arrived yesterday the plants look great some are already blooming. I did this order because once you order for the season they send you a fifty percent off invitation only offer before they make a similar offer to the public which you have to find out about on your own. I do approve of the larger plants they establish quickly for me which is what I need here in the north. I do gently remove the new pot before planting will wait to hear reports from other on how the pots work if left in place.

Janice, I do usually do that when I get the mail orders. I just have no luck with those pots. Do you think I should dig it up now and re-soak it? I will not bother with the ones from e-bay, this person sent me two hosta's in a peat pot and they just have never grown, now they have slug bites all over them. Also I bought a 'Loyalist', I love the variegation and these Hosta are slug resistant, but the one she sent me is just a dark solid green, don't have no idea what it is except maybe a seedling. So basically the Hosta are not true to name, I think she grew these from seed. Sad

I got Pica Bella for 4.47 and all the others were seven something, but that better than 20 something! Especially, Jim Dandy for 7.77, I stole that plant! Green Grin!

My order just came from High Country Gardens and I opened and unpacked it. I am mad as a hatter!!!! Grumbling I ordered some columbine as an add on but I really wanted the Indigo Spires Salvia. No salvia. I get a note saying that they will put a credit back on my charge card.

I just ordered them from Bluestone. That part didn't work out too badly as they are haveing the half price sale. So I ordered the 3 Indigo Spires and also three Woodfield Hybrids Lupines.

Thumbs up Sounds good, I love the Woodfield Hybrids Lupines, I tried to order some of the Morello Cherry Lupin from Annies Annuals and they wanted 29.95 to ship the two plants. So I ordered seeds from Summerhill seeds. Whistling

I have some of those as I bought them from Bluestrone three years ago when they were selling them in those 3 packs. But also on sale so even then I paid half price. But I have them in a section of the southside rose garden and they must like it there as they are doing well. Meantime I tried to establish a Lupine garden over on the other side of my house without great sucess. So I haven't yet decided which of my two lupine places I will plant these.

Well, I heard they don't like a lot of humidity so I was going to try a place where they will get plenty of air circulation. Thumbs up

Impossible to get away from the humidity here on humid Long Island. Probably humid enough there where you are also in Virginia. Lupines are finicky about the heat. As in they don't like it.

I am thinking I should plant them out front where there is plenty of air flow and a break from the heat in the afternoons, from the trees. The back yard has a privacy fence and there is no air flow, the grass stays wet for three days after it rains and my roses always had black spot. I moved the roses to the front yard and planted them right beside the front walk and they get air from all directions now and no black spot at all. Thumbs up
