My plants are third year plants in this spring of 2016. It looks like I'm going to get some blooms this year. UPDATE: I did get a few blooms in 2016 but no seed pods. Hopefully, 2017 will bring more blooms and maybe a seed pod or two.

I grew these in pots but they shed so many seed into other pots on the deck, that I've done my best to remove the plants and seedlings. Easy to grow but be prepared for an extensive web of deep mat of roots and many new seedlings.

Giant Milkweed (Calotropis gigantea)
Icon for preview
Have
The mature leaves of the Giant Milkweed has a bit of sheen on the top of the leaf, compared to procera, which seems more fuzzy. My plant blooms are white. They grew well over 6 ft during my 2016 season. I dug up two, potted and overwintered in my small greenhouse. They have done well. Hopefully, I'll have a head start in spring of 2017.

Sodom Apple (Calotropis procera)

The mature leaves of Calotropis procera seem to me to have a soft bit of fuzz on them, unlike the mature leaves of the Giant Milkweed. The older stems are ridged, like young bark.

Easy to grow in pots, bears heavily and very tasty. I pick them and eat while walking around the garden. Like the taste so much, I've planted additional plants so I can use the little cukes in fresh salads.

These plants, started from seed, grew very well for me but I didn't notice interest by the pollinators so I will not grow it again.
