There were two of the resulting offspring so far that I have kept along with some that haven't bloomed yet:

Things I like about it:
Clean white standards
Blended color falls
White rim on falls
White underside of falls
bright beard
Things that concern me:
Bloom count was 5
Could use more ruffles.

I like the bright white standards and bright beard, Tom. I'm no judge . but it's an appealing iris to me.

I like the blend and veining on the falls. Would I keep it - yes. Cross it to bring out more blending or ruffles and try to keep the white rim. Intro it, maybe not because there are many in that color group. Interesting that it is so different than it's parents. Are white standards common from yellow top parents? I am not up on my iris genes.

I wondered about the white standards from yellow tops too, Leslie. I always
thought only whites made white.

It was the only one so far with white standards, but I'd guess that came from Gypsy Lord.

I could never qualify as a judge; probably because what I like in an iris doesn't meet the professional "judging" requirements of the experts. With that said I don't evaluate a plant by what the experts say. I go by my own instincts and preferences. An iris first must grow well and bloom in my zone a/b environment, and not rot or freeze out! Then I judge on looks, size, color(s), and rhizome increases. One more thing; everyone's taste can differ from one plant to another for a lot of reasons (Size, color, form, hue, etc.).

I will leave the judging to the pros and hybridizers in the commercial markets. They have spent their lifetimes working and developing many gorgeous plants. However, if there is something I really like in seedlings like Tom's I don't mind where it comes from; I will grow it! Of all the things Tom listed, his pictures say it best. I don't find anything "bad". I like it just like it is. The right photo shows it best. This would make a beautiful plant in my garden! I'm being honest.

I like it Tom. I personally always look for great garden performance and good increase. Bud count (5 is fine) is not that important to me, but I do like good branching; for example, Rosalie Figge has a beautiful flower, very high bud count, but very poor branching here in my garden in zone 6b which makes it an undesirable iris to me.

What color is the beard?

Leon, all of the things that you mentioned are important, plus branching and spacing as well. I don't like when the blooms are so crowded that you can't see them. This bloom has good substance and withstood a pretty big storm, or storms, as it seemed to rain a lot this year. This one has OK branching, two plus the terminal, double socketed on two branches and single on the lowest branch.but since it's the first year things can change after it's more established. We'll have to see. I had many named irises this year with lower bud count then usual and it may be a weather related thing.

Hybridizer The beard is a bright red/orange.

Tom ~ I do like it. It is very pretty! That is my personal opinion, as I am very far from being any kind of professional. I am in agreement with Leon, if it grows well, has good substance, spacing, etc....and I like the bloom, then I would grow it!

The longer I look at it, the more I like it. It reminds me a bunch of Grace Upon Grace which I am fond of. But I believe your bloom is more beautiful because of the white border. The White underbelly is very interesting. If I saw that listed in a catalog, I might buy it soley for that trait.

The white & purple is better. Things are getting over ruffled, but the bloom count would be a worry.

I agree with Lucy. I like the form and color better on the purple and white one. The purple and orange I would work with because the bleed out of the color on the falls is really interesting.

My taste (I use the term loosely) is for things I don't see often.

Around here, I seldom see pure white standards unless the entire bloom is white. Darker falls seem to usually have some beige, yellow or blue undertones in the white. And I like a contrasting beard. So I like it; it's different to me. The orange one with the neon "arnge" beard is my kind of color combo. Now if you can put the orange standards on the purple falls and name it Clemson _____. You'll sell them all day long down here....go tigers!

Ed too funny! The second one is really more interesting in person then in picture. It's kind of hard to get the brightness of the colors with a camera. I can see it's not everyone's cup of tea. It's surely not worthy of introduction, but I think it will be fun to work with it to see what happens with it's good bloodlines.

i like the form on the white with dark falls and because of it's clear color distinction, thumbs up on the ruffles, but am not too keen on opposite color wheel blending. my painter's eye sees these colors as muddying the waters.

but add buds. 5 is the standard for a BB. My BB 'Hi Buddy' got its name because it has 7.
