I was wondering in the garden, sorta of looking at some daylilies. THEN IT APPEARED! A scape on Nature Lover! Orange Spice (first scape last year) is beside Nature Lover and I call them my monsters. They have really good sized clumps. They also put on a show. We've had two 80+ degree days and I think the daylilies are celebrating!!!

Went out and looked again. Found another scape on Can't Touch This!

I have been out looking when fertilizing and spraying but nothing yet, glad to hear you have scapes, maybe in another two weeks I will have scapes. I am thinking this cold spell may slow them down a little.

I've got two!! Hurray!

OK these are seedlings growing indoors in pots so maybe that's cheating a bit, but still counts as a pleasant sight!

Pam, it's been really dry here too! And the temperatures have been all over the map! Last 2 days in mid- to high 80's. Tomorrow 70 with a low of 46. This is crazy!!

I am in between you both, in The Villages for the winter. We are supposed to get rain tonight so I hope you both get some also. I don't have any daylilies down here except for a couple prolifs I brought down last year as an experiment. They are still little, figured I wouldn't see any of the flowers since we leave late April so why bother. Shrug!

A few days ago I was very surprised.to see this (very short) scape on my Painted Lady (Mid season) here in Liverpool. Other daylilies have plenty of leaves, thanks to a mild winter, and this is growing close to the South wall of my house so it has a warm microclimate, but I would not expect to see scapes before May.

Alan,
Amazing to see scapes and buds so early but I was really shocked to see them in the United Kingdom...plus I see you have cactus!

Yes, I have a number of cacti, mostly in the greenhouse, but two live outside all year.

Despite being on the same latitude as Edmonton Alberta my winters are not very cold. This year it has only gone slightly below freezing on a few nights, and it has always been several degrees above freezing during the day. My dormant daylilies started to appear in January.

British conditions are good for daylilies - they never get rust here - although they are not as popular as they deserve to be.

Oh, wow, @florange, @dennis616 and @pikaia! I'm jealous.

I love early scapes, but it's kind of nerve-wracking. The last time I had scapes pop super-early was 2015. Then we had a vicious severe thunderstorm on May 15, and the gardens got pummeled by very heavy hail. My earlies, Snow Elf and H. fulva, lost all buds and several scapes altogether.

Still, I love seeing them! I'm checking mine daily...Snow Elf plants are almost big enough to start scapes, and I'm keeping an eye on my potted Kwanso bush to see if it sprouts early too.

My first bloom of 2020....!

This one must have been on sale or a bonus plant :)

I saw yesterday that it was about to open and intended to look at it early this morning... forgot about it and this is it around 2 pm today.... would liked to have seen it earlier.
