I did not see an April blooms thread started, so I am posting a photo of two of my Champagne Elegance blooms here. These are on two different plants, I have one more plant with buds but no blooms on it for another week or so I estimate. I had a few NOIDs with blooms already in April, and missed some photos of a few others due to heavy rain.
These are not typical of the beautiful blooms on this variety, but it is very early in the season still.

We are experimenting with daylilies in my classroom, and many students have no plant experience. They can't quite grasp pollen-dabbing, so I felt that a hands on experience would be best:).

I divided a few clumps, potted a few fans and put them in the greenhouse in hopes of getting the blooming season started early enough that students could try their hand at forming a few pods

The first bloom was today. Quite ironic since today is the first day of spring break, so kids are out of school for the week!

Blackthorne

My first bloom this year (and this month) is Big Snowbird which I received from @kousa at the end of December (2015) and transplanted it into my raised bed. It came in a clump of 5 fans. So far it has produced 3 scapes. The scapes are 21-23" tall and the first bloom was 5". I will be trying my hand at freezing the pollen to use later when other cultivars bloom.

Oh wow Becky, that is really early for them to bloom! I usually don't see Big Snowbird blooming until July for my area. Congrats! I think it must like your growing environment. Nice thing is it reblooms so you maybe able to get pollen from a later bloom.

With the night time temps still staying in the 40's and 50's the blooms are not wanting to open, but at least they are trying.
Royal Eventide: I waited till almost 11: 30 for this photo and still the bloom is only half way open. At least it has a few scapes now and several buds on each.

Wow do your plants look nice. Nice scapes too. I finally got a nice big fat scape this morning. Its on Dutch Yellow Truffle ( my avatar picture). Dont know why, I just love this flower. I know everybody has to hear this every year

Larry, that's a beauty! I look forward to seeing it when it's fully opening. At least you can hybridize with Royal Eventide, even if it's a little sleepy and doesn't want to wake up.

Regina, wouldn't you know it bloomed during Spring Break. LOL They will enjoy them when they come back.

I really don't do any hybridizing to speak of, maybe dap some here and there if I get bored. So I am impatiently waiting for warmer nights.

And so it begins! Thanks for starting this thread Larry, although I won't be able to contribute until at least mid-late May. It's just so doggone nice to see someone's blooms and knowing that mine are just around the corner.

These daylilies look so good, and exciting to see even when they
have difficulty opening with cool nights and so early in the season.

And just remember, they get so much better later, and then we are
ecstatic. Rinse, repeat, every season, at least that's the way I am.
I never tire of looking at and playing with these flowers.

Lava Flow bloomed today, but it wasn't nearly as pretty as last summer. It's been really cool here at night, so the bloom was very sluggish to open fully. The color was very muted. However, I was still completely happy to see blooms since some of you are still experiencing the frigid temps!

I got busy repotting coleus today and forgot to go take a picture.

This one has been completely outdoors, no greenhouse involved I'm noticing scapes everywhere, spring is well under way

H. Dumorterii




This is a species which always blooms long before any other daylilies.
Our early blooming daylilies will start about the last week of May but this was blooming yesterday.
This is a heritage cultivar that was brought to Oklahoma by my great grandmother during the land run of 1889 and we still grow it today.
They never knew what it was and just called it old and early.

Those buds are pretty neat to be opening to that bright yellow bloom. Isn't this also really, really early for your part of the world? Are you using a species to get this seedling?

I was editing my posted picture when you wrote. That is very observant of you to know that we should not have daylilies blooming at this time. We just recently were at 25 degrees and the first bloom scape on H. Dumorterii froze or it would have bloomed even earlier.

That's great you are still growing it and have identified it. Did she bring it to Oklahoma from a colder climate or a warmer one or one that was similar? Since it blooms so very early, in my mind it would be logical that it came from a place where it wouldn't be subject to being caught by late freezes following some warm stretches that push it to start blooming. That would be fairly common where you are, I think. Or it may have adapted by lots of rebloom as a safety for making seeds. Does it do that? I'll Google the species and see what it tells me about its' origins, but that won't cover whence your grandmother toted it along to its current home.
