Welcome back, Mattsmom! Hope all is well.

Lynn, I'm more than happy to get back in line for the next person who might offer a box, or maybe somebody will be willing to trade... I've got a few sedums on my list, and I've got an assortment of non-succulents... that 'Rose Petal' thyme, for example, is seriously cool... it really does smell like roses, and my daughter says it tastes like flowers. They are eating your roses Clint? Or your thyme?

The rose blooms. I figured if I had that thyme she was talking about I could smell some roses. I might have to get rid of the roses. I can't stand the way they attract those beetles!

That rose petal thyme sounds very intriguing. I have a lot of roses, but wouldn't mine that thyme. I have an orange thyme that smells wonderful.

I've grown orange thyme and also one called 'Spicy Orange' that I think I may have lost last winter... will get some more next time I go to DeBaggio's, as I love the shaggy texture as well as the scent.

The Rose Petal thyme is one I picked up at the Leesburg Plant Festival several years ago, and it's been doing really well around the edges of a "pocket garden" behind one of the sitting rocks by the patio.

Like so many plants, thyme is easy to grow as long as it gets excellent drainage. It likes to be watered (totally a myth that you should not water herbs... people hear that herbs can survive without much water, which is true once they're established, but they will grow better if they're not all dried out LOL), but it just can't survive soggy soil for very long. It's easy to propagate the low-growing thymes... I like the big bowl-type planters from the dollar store... put a thyme plant in the middle, let its branches spread out along the surface and send down new roots as they go... in a month or two the whole bowl is one big chunk of thyme that can be divided up for planting.

Clint, you need to check out rose scented geraniums (pelargonium) also!

Sorry, Lynn, I got this thread off track again... maybe we need a thread for rock garden companion plants for our semps & sedums... I figure most Mediterranean herbs (thymes, agastaches, salvias) should do well in a rock garden setting... rose thyme has a soft silvery color that would be very nice with purple or green or pink/lavender semps.

I feel like such an "insider" btw, calling them "semps" like I'm an old hand at growing them. Green Grin!

Ahhhh, these ideas sound wonderful. I cannot wait to start working on my semp and sedum bed this summer. Does anyone want to help me remove this tough lawn?
