OMG Im late to the party on this I guess, but when and why in the USA can you only buy isurance one month a year, cant change or adjust your policy. Im suppose to go to the pacemaker dr this morning for a new battery, I was just informed that O by the way you havent jumped thru 100 insurance related hoops I didnt know about so you cant go.. Im just am in shock. Im sure Im not the first to figure out our helath care is really screwed up, but I got it now.

If this is anything like what medicare is going to be like thats something Im not looking forward too. I need to figure out how to supplement that before the time comes so Im not in this bind again.

Pam, I've been on Medicare over 10 years now and it's been pain free. We have been very impressed by how everything has been handled, and we have had a lot of different medical problems and surgeries.

I agree with Karen about Medicare. It has worked well for us and my late husband had many claims the last year's of his life. You should look for a supplement as well to help with what portion Medicare does not cover.

Pam, I've been on Medicare for 5 years, a few big operations, no problems. The key is to find an independent broker, JMHO the advantage plans are cheaper, appear to offer more but typically have high deductibles, additionaly there are restrictions if you want to leave the advantage plans and go to Medicare after the fact. Also ask if there are any restrictions on the advantage plans if you travel.
If you consider the Mayo at Jax an asset, make sure your supplemental includes it.
