Hurray for the roses. And turkey dinner sounds great to me. If I had land, even a little, I would keep chickens. I would actually do it here even with no room left but it is not legal in our town. Sad So I have to be happy with my fruiting shrubs and veggies and no chickens. Whistling

I am working on expanding my veggies and currently working in this area.

I keep watching the beans wondering were the flowers are. Can't get beans without the flowers first. Whistling Hilarious! But I really am obsessed with the veggies this year. Planted enough cucumbers to open up my own farm stand this year! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Which beans are those, Rita? They look fabulous!

All I planted so far this year are the "foot-long" beans. I can wrap the bottoms to keep the rabbits from decimating the entire plant, and since the fruit is way up high, they're fairly safe.

Janice, he's intimidated by all those other birds, but I think he likes the company anyway.

Today the poor thing was chased by Mom's dog - he's okay, but he might not come into the yard for a bit.

Could be...

...but it's more likely because the parents are very physical in the protection of their young ... Hilarious! ...they let him know in no uncertain terms that he's to keep his distance.

I'm certain that's because he inadvertently landed on a 2 week old chick, ...or three. (We used to have a baker's dozen chicks...a few suffered accidents.)

I have five pots of beans that are five different kinds. I have Blue Lake Pole beans (string beans), Spanish Musica which are a european bean and three types of chinese yards long beans. red Noodle, green noodle and asparagus bean. I never heard of foot long beans but then I never heard of yard long beans either until this spring. First bean picture shows the Blue Lake. Second bean picture showing some of the yard long beans.

Big Grin Thumbs up I have grown pole beans (string beans) lots of times but the yard longs are new for me, Mine are just now starting to climb. I noticed first off when they started growing that the leaves are pointier than on the regular beans.

Have you had the yard long beans before? I can't wait for beans so I can taste them. But looking forward to stir fries of whatever kinds of beans I get. I am thinking a mixed bean stir fry would be really nice. Thumbs up

Enjoys or suffers cold winters
turkeys here are the wild ones & they are a nuisance. they eat acorns & crickets (good) but harm the plants by taking dust baths & loosning up the roots.
A friend south of Boston has had to plant her corn 3 times because the wild ones pull up the plants.

Today is nosey around here. They are having the yearly antique car show in the park accross the street. They have this every year. Live music in the bandstand and all the cars reving up and making lots of noise. Food stalls selling hot dogs and hamburgers. Lots of people walking around and traffic on the street today.

You can see that the property goes up directly behind that patio. I love the effect because I love the hillside which is planted with all sorts of stuff. I had impatients in thos pots like I plant every year but they all shriveled up and died. Very weird. I think it was because of too much rain. I will just have to figgure out what seeds to sow in there. Since the flowers died maybe I will just plant fall veggies. Lettuce? brocolli? Something like that.
