Sorry about the storms in N Indiana...Hot weather usually brings those..Hope y'all had some rain with it..Too bad Shannon that you got no rain with all that stormy weather. North of here there were storms and we had minor wind but no rain. The temps have gone down a little but it is now 95. Stay cool everyone!

Yea rain would have been very welcome. There are severe weather forcasts again and they said the word Tornato for Northern Va.
Hopefully it will just be rain up there.

Beautiful Rita...are you receiveing regular rain ? Im soo glad my gardens are not masive, in this drought. I can keep up watering enough to keep everything alive,by running 2-3 hoses at a time..Lucky for me our well and pump can handle that..I dont water any grass and thats looking really bad, cant go bare foot any more it hurts... Blinking

There are 1000`s without power around here,maybe till Weds...My stepdaughter,stepson...They have called in 300 power workers..widespread damage,no tornados...straightline winds

chelle,Ive seen more than few broken trees where they were hung up ...up high...call the pros.. Sad I need to get my fanny out just to pick up the sticks and twigs.

High,high humidity today..only 75 so far...but hot and thick

Im high speed dial up out in the country....I basicly dont get a cell signal here either phone ...I dont have an Iphone...But we still had hard line service, even with lots...lots of trees hanging on the above ground lines ,an amazing amount ...cant beleive those didnt take down the poles and lines....

Yeah, I couldn't believe so many were still out of power when I saw it on the news last night. It'll be a tough day for them today, too. Sad

We got a rope on that section of tree to finish pulling it down, but because of the stringy nature of these trees, it won't let go! Hilarious! We've decided to let the break dry out and then we'll try pulling it again in a few days, or so.

Here's how the gazebo ended up ...it almost went indoors. I had it set with 4 foot screw-in anchors; they held just fine....the metal framing of the canopy support is what finally gave.

But...phlox and lilies are blooming now, and this is the first I've seen some of the lilies. Big Grin Last year we were gone on vacation when some of the newer ones bloomed.

We had the same storms, straight-line winds at 80 mph. Our power and phone were out for 24 hours in 100° heat. Very grateful to have power restored last night. Lots of local damage, but No real damage on my property though a state of emergency declared in Ohio. 30,000 still without power, down from 250,000.

Thank you!

I'm very, very glad that I put those fence section windbreaks in the garden. My tall and top-heavy Conca D' Oro lilies are tipped, but not broken...and they're starting to open. Hurray!

The blooms are huge! Twice the size of my hand, at least.

Thumb of 2012-07-01/chelle/0395f1 Hurray!
It's doubly special that I'm seeing blooms on these...they're part of the ones that got hit hard by that late frost, and I missed their blooms last year.

So glad you have power today, Karen. Thumbs up

Beautiful lilies.

The heat and humidity continue here. I'm not doing anything in my yard these days except watering tomatoes. I've thrown in the towel for this year.

I'm still experimenting. Hilarious! I direct sowed more seeds a week ago under a light layer of weed mulch in an area that gets some shade. Some of them are already up and growing - we'll see how they fare ...mostly drought tolerant and heat loving types of plants, of course. Big Grin

I'm also planning on transplanting some Prairie Smoke seedlings. I'm thinking they can handle pretty tough conditions, as long as I give them a little shade to start with.

Even a couple of my tomato plants are looking fried. I've had aster yellows on 3 echinacea plants and I'm wondering if it got my tomatoes, too. But they have stood well through the windstorms, in their Texas Tomato Cages that I bought last year.

We did have another storm blow through last night, mostly violent wind with rain for about 15 minutes. Weather.com says we got 0.6" but I only had 0.1" in my rain gauge. At least I didn't lose power again though. Last I heard we were down to 30,000 with no power. After having had that for one day in this heat, I really feel for those folks.

Karen, keep up watering the tomatoes but deep water whenever you do so.

Tamara, I love your backyard it just looks so country cottage garden back there. Nice tomato bed and then that lovely perenial bed over close to it. And your tomato plants look great. I even see your pretty sunflower in there amoung them. Any green tomatoes yet?
