Margaret, that one was a blackish purple earlier, but is a
more pale hue now, as are several others. We have had
lots of rain for over a week now, so don't know if that is
a factor or not.

Just love Palace Garden Beauty X Memphis, Mardi Gras Ball X Magic Amethyst and Hawaiian NIghts X SC Starburst! These seedlings were so pretty, I looked back through the thread at your other seedlings. Ones I especially liked were Touch of Royalty X Victorian Lace, Tropical Trade Winds X Storm of the Century (all of them!), and Mandalay Baby Music X Memphis.

Lots and lots and lots of beauties. I really liked Lipstick Traces. Did the tomato canning turn out alright in spite of the power outtage? I think there are stages in canning were you can't quit in the middle of the project but I newer canned anything so what do I know. Whistling Hilarious!

I plan to just freeze some nice large tomatoes whole later as I read you could do that. Usually I cook some down to sauce and then freeze but never caned anything.

Rita, the tomatoes finished cooking, and I was ready to put them in jars when
the power went off. They didn't cool down much while the power was off, but
I reheated them, canned them up, and put the cans through a water bath (boiling
water with cans submerged) for 15 min. Other vegetables I use the pressure canner.

A neighbor used to freeze whole tomatoes, and she said as long as she let them
thaw before cooking, that they tasted similar to canned.

And thanks for the very nice comments.

Rita, I am growing a yellow heirloom this year that has a great balance of
sweet and just a smidgen (sp?) of tart. Here's a pic. The thing is I don't
know what its called, but it is the best yellow I have grown. Big too.

Oh yumm, those look good enough to eat. Smiling Whistling Hilarious! But I might try something else besides Sungolds too in yellow tomatoes next year.

I am especially interested in two of the yellow tomatoes from the dwarf tomato project, SUMMERTIME GOLD and DWARF MR SNOW. Of course that means I probably would have to start my own from seed as I doubt plants would available.

Plants being available is a problem here. Have to start seeds, which I do in
late March to Early April inside, but this year it was so warm, I set the pots
outside. I save seed every year, and keep them in the freezer. Have done
this for many years.

I am actually very lucky here in that the local tomato plant selection each spring is awesome. But if I want something as new as the ones from the dwarf tomato project I am sure I would have to grow my own.

Shirlee, or anyone that grows daylilies in pots, I have a few that are in pots and I was wondering if you rotate the pots or leave them as is, I have scapes on two, no idea what they are, which is why they are in pots, I was afraid they were ditchlilies. Glare

Margaret, I have a few in pots this year, usually have them in the garden.
Now I'm not sure as to when to plant them in the ground, maybe about six
weeks before frost. I don't think they would do well in an unheated garage
during the winter, but don't know. These are new arrivals that are quarantined
to make sure they are disease free. I had previous new arrivals that I planted
in the garden that were not disease free, and that created some problems.

Maybe someone else can clue us both in on this.

I'm sorry Shirlee but I probably confused you, I meant rotate as you would a house plant for even growth on the plant, I know with some plants the buds can twist of, I have no idea about potted daylilies outside, except for these few, mine are in the ground.

Oh, I see what you mean. I do rotate the pots so sun can get to each side
for equal growth since they are not in full sun all day. Haven't noticed the
buds twisting toward the sun enough to come off on any that I don't get to
for several days.
