Honestly I have no clue. I would imagine the hairs help hold the pollen in place for the stigmatic fluid or help it move down the style. You could put more than one pollen on a stigma, but why would you want to. I would imagine the first pollen that was dabbed would be the pollen that gets in and makes it to the ovary. If more than one pollen did actually get to the ovary you wouldn't have a clue as to which seeds each pollen went to. Too much confusion there.
I have heard of a person that would mix all of the pollen from lots of daylilies and pollinate with the mixture. AGAIN, you have no clue as to who the pollen parent actually is.

You do have three sections to a normal pistil, therefore there sections to a normal seed pod. It you have no seed in one section of the seed pod that means the pollen did not make it down one section of the pistil for some reason. You will see this a lot more in the tets than you do in the dips, you also get lot more seed from dip pods. I have done lot more dip ufs this year than the last several years and average 15-20 seed in a dip pod compared to 4-8 in a tet pod. Fred

Poly blooms have four, five or six tubes in the pistil, the same number as the sets of tepals. Then the pods reflect that as mentioned above. This was from a pentamerous bloom.

Well, well. I knew a little about poly blooms, but never thought about the pistil having as many sections as the poly has petals. I had many many blooms with the pistils being seperated at the first of the season and on into the peak bloom season. This is what has caused the questions. I also had pistils that would have 2 normal parts and then one would be shorter than the rest, usually about half the length. I tried setting pods on these but none worked.

I always try really hard to get a good consistant coverage when I apply pollen but sometimes it seems no matter how hard I try, I still get the bad shape with one section not developing. I'm about sure it's a problem within the pistil that keeps the pollen from reaching the ovary. But, I don't know this for sure.

I'm always going to be asking and digging for information to give me bigger, better and more seed pods. I find this very interesting. I'm one that would love to see all of this under a microscope. The picture that I referenced at the AHS of the end of the pistil is very interesting and amazing to me.

You got that right about dip pods. Out of 4 pods on one of Kim's dips she got over 100 seeds.

I really went overboard with the dips this year. I really used Emerald Starburst, Rose Kennedy, Wild Dreams, and Opps Another Miracle a lot, they were all new for me this year. Also used Lillian's Vapor Trail more than I should have. Now I have to find somewhere to plant all these seedlings.
This is a couple of two year olds I will keep another year HB5 (LILLIAN'S ALABAMA SUNRISE X COACH'S HOT LIPS) X BEFORE MY EYES 5" bloom 28" scape.

Ok, Rose Kennedy is a dip? Then she really needs to be converted because she is fantastic!!! I have not crossed a dip this year since I only have a few and I decided this was a easy out for them. Atleast I have something I didn't put pollen on, HEHEHE!!

It has been converted and we have seen seedlings from it, they have all that green.

That's good to know, Fred. I hope to see some of the seedlings and maybe even be able to purchase a baby someday. I like the Happy Happy baby. I'm hoping to buy HH this fall. It's seems to have good babies. I've got a few seeds from L. Alabama Sunrise that I've gathered the last few days. I'm so tickled to have these. They will stay here, that's for sure!

Michele, I love your baby. I really do like it when a seedling takes something from each parent but still is unique in it's own right. It's kinda disappoints me when it looks too much like a parent.

James has some winners in that group. #1 and #3 really jump at me.

There are a few people with the Tet RFK. It was on the auction last year (don't know who had it on there) and then someone has sold seeds on the auction with the Tet RFK. I would love to have it

I am sure several people have treated RFK and EMERAL STARBURST as Pat Stamile did MALACHITE PRISM, all three were dips hybridized by George Doorakian. I tried to do some research on parentage of RFK and EMERAL STARBURST but he list one parent as a seedling which is very possible, on Julie Covington's web site he has thousands. I wanted the dips because thats what I want to work with at this time, if I get something really good I can have it treated.
I selected this 10 month old DIP seedling yesterday because of the scape and it sets seed easy. The pollen is sterile so I will never register it, just use it as a bridge plant. It also looks a lot like its pollen parent.

This is a two year old I used a lot this year, pod and pollen. Its from two seedlings, one mine (HB42) and one from the George's (B10) I will keep it as a bridge plant because of the slow increase.
