I agree. A great old thread.

It would be so hard to choose just one of my favorite roses. I have such a small space that if the rose tends to be marginal--out it goes. I only plant what I love, so all of them are favorites!

Now, that being said, I am still looking at getting rid of Alnwick (not a great performer and no scent for me) and my languishing Princess Alexandra of Kent (she is a great rose, just not in the spot where she is currently located, unfortunately, and there is no where else to put her where she won't attack people). Here are pictures of her in all her glory.

That may be why I am having such trouble trying to decide on a rose to replace her. I think I will give her some special TLC this year and see if she responds.

and Wildfire! Although Wildfire does tend to fade, which I don't care for, but is very brilliant in it's prime.

Mustbnuts - I'm getting rid of The Alnwick Rose this year too. Just not all that impressive, and I've had it for 5 years. I agree with trying some more on your PAOK!! That looks amazing!! I got a bare root last year (really tiny) and I'm hoping that mine will do better this year.

Christine - Tell me about Radiant Perfume, please! I'm always wondering if that rose would be worth getting. Smiling Does it have a wonderful fragrance like the name suggests? The yellow flowers you show are Peace, I imagine. Unless the buds are RP?? Beautiful pictures!!

I did not have a good photo of Radiant Perfume, but it is that bud BEHIND Peace. Yes, it is a fantastically scented rose - just one rose scents my entire office, and it is intoxicating! I have had it here in Ohio for about 15 years and it is still doing well. Hardly any black spot during our humid season. Dark leathery leaves. Rather than wilting and dying in the vase, the leaves all tend to drop off - and then I can't help but scoop them up and take one last sniff of the perfume!

Windermere is my favourite. The colour varies with the season so it can look yellow, cream, apricot, and blush pink. It blooms profusely and the perfume is gorgeous.

No, not lemons. A very strong classic rose scent. I would say they get medium sized. I love buds the best. But when they open up they actually very cheerful looking. And, yes, I really love that little hint of green that works its way in. And this rose requires very little special care. I guess the only downside to them, is that when the Japanese Beetles show up, they go for this one first. Which is sad because by the time I first see a Japanese Beetle, it has already destroyed one of my Radiant Perfumes,

Hi, just saw this forum and thought I would put my 2 cents in. My favorite rose of all time is Fantin-Latour. It is a pink centifolia with an amazing scent. It is supposedly a bush but I grew one quite successfully as a climber. Sorry I do not have a picture I received mine too late in the season to get any blooms. Smiling
