We all have an opinion for what it is worth...I would leave the Database, Forums and Tree-Mail at the top of the page and move ideas, lists, blogs, and recommendations to the bottom of the page. I guess each of us use different things. I would also enjoy it if the banner were a little wider although I'm not smart enough to submit one........

I have to say that that yellow 'tree mail' sign (and Dave, thank you for moving the profile to the bottom) still bothers me right there smack in the banner Sad
But - we all know you can't please everyone!

Thanks Evan, dave had said:

"I moved the Profile and Mail tabs off into buttons by themselves at the very top-right"

I have to say the profile tab is lost at the bottom, I like it to be handy as it was previously and I think many people won't have a clue how to find it as an insignificant link at the bottom.

Interesting to see how other people see their banners! On mine, the blue blooms are smack in the center and the yellow blooms barely show. I screenshot this reply post so you could see the difference. I know it has to do with screen resolutions right?

Would a mouse-over drop-down work for everything other than plants database, profile, mail and forums tabs? Titled simply "more", or something similar?

Thinking out loud Whistling

If any of the tabs left need to be moved to the bottom, I'm thinking blogs since Ideas, Lists, and Database are all sort of tied together which would allow mail to be moved back down? Most blogs are plant related but not all.

I access my profile a lot too but it doesn't bother me to be at the bottom.

All this info could also be put into the Welcome and Help forum for the new members so they don't get lost.

Or maybe put it all back like it was and put Recommendations at the bottom?

I'm not fond of the Tree Mail where it is now (upper right corner). I would like to see it stay in the tab area.
Prefer the Plant Database.
Love the tabs across the top of the page (the way they are), it is easy for any one to find.

Would be fun to see what it would be like using Rick's idea:
RickCorey said:I like a big panel of buttons up fornt to take me where I want to go in one step.

Maybe a whizzier scheme would hide all the buttons behind one "navigation" icon, and when the mouse approachs the icon, a big navigation panel pops up. That way it is still only one click, but leaves more room for the pretty banner photos.

That's my second criterion: close to my first. See more of the banner!

I agree I use mine very often.

Maybe Rick's idea is the best we've heard so far. I think all the navigation should be together in one place. That's easiest for everyone. And imagine newbies trying to figure out where to access things --- If some are up top, some are on the bottom & some in the banner it's going to be awfully confusing. Plus with any permanent change the "newbie 101" will need to be changed to reflect the new locations of anything. Just a reminder.

One problem with hiding all the tabs behind one "Navigation" icon is that many people will be asking "where's the Tabs??" Maybe call it a Tabs icon ... or any time a mosue strays anywhere near the banner, pop up the nav panel, maybe transparent at first, then soild and locked when the mouse goes inside the panel.

Close it on any click, and have a "Hit ESC to close" footnote.

But hiding anything means that some people won't find it!

>> Could you make the Mail and Profile buttons transparent?

I love that idea. My browser went crazy once and gave the buttons a transparent backgorund. I liked it!

But then, I would like it if the banner expanded to fill the screen with attribution and explanation if I clicked on "expand banner".
