I put the cover on the seasonal hoop house today. I have to admit, I am not impressed with the quality of this greenhouse for the price of $384. I'll write more about it later...

I plan to take the cover off for the Winter...

Here is the review I just submitted to the company.

SAVE YOUR MONEY
I paid $384 for this greenhouse. I would value it at about $199 at best.

The frame assembles in pieces which is no problem, except on about 1/2 the pieces the set screws that hold each section together were set out too far to grab onto the other piece of the frame. I had to drill new holes and put in my own set screws.

After making sure everything was square, I put on the top which seemed to fit well, but when I tried to zipper the front door, there was so much tension, the zipper pulled apart. For $384 I would think they could use metal zippers and not cheap nylon zippers.

I will probably use it for this season and then trash it. Not worth the money.

I posted this in the Pepper Reports forum, but it kind of got passed over with other conversations, so I am going to post it here as well:

It got down to 23 degrees here last night. It got down to 42 degrees in my greenhouse, so I wasn't concerned. However, this morning a good number of my pepper seedlings are limp and leaning down, almost touching the soil. Some look just fine, so I am wondering what might be going on with these others. I know they didn't freeze, and all of my other vegetable seedlings look fine. I'm hoping they pop back up as the day warms up. Any ideas? Rita?

EDIT: Just went out to the greenhouse again. Temps are in the mid 70's now, and all the limp pepper plants are standing up straight again. Tonight is supposed to go down into the 20's again. I think I will tent the pepper plants and put 1 or 2 - 60 watt bulbs under the table to provide a little extra warmth to that area.

Definitely tent them for tonight.

I was told to always water plants well if frost is expected.

I'd consider bringing them inside, if possible, rather than risking losing them or stressing them.

I was also thinking of that...bringing them inside tonight. The greenhouse is staying warm enough for everything else, so I don't want to pump up the heat just for the peppers. It's so expensive.

So I think they just got stressed because of the low temps. Some might have been in pockets of colder air in the greenhouse than others.

Peppers are more cold sensitive than tomatoes. Even though not near freezing that probably was just too cold for them.

I agree on covering them for tonight if you can.

Not sure about "pockets' as there were cases where two seedlings barely an inch apart in the same pot...and one was limp while the other was fine. But, in any event, it looks like we are not going to drop as low tonight. Right now, they are saying 37 for the low. That means the greenhouse will stay about 60 overnight. I am going to watch more closely day by day. If anything approaches last night's temps, I'll either cover them with a little extra warmth or move them to the basement for the night. Gotta keep my babies healthy! Thumbs up

I've seen my Japanese morning glories go limp like that after a night in the 40s.
