Same here! I kept them in pots in the greenhouse last year and had my best pepper year ever. I am going to try the same with almost everything I plant this year. That is why I bought the 2nd greenhouse. I plan to keep some of everything in pots in the two greenhouses and some outside in pots...and some in the ground outside...and compare the three planting scenarios.

Planted more peat pots today...32 with 4 varieties of tomatoes and 8 with cabbage.

Early Girl
Early Treat
Rutgers
Mountain Magic
Copenhagen Cabbage

Looked high and low for a bunch of plastic cells for my zinnias and marigolds, but couldn't find them, so I had to order more from Amazon. They won't be here for a week. I didn't want to waste peat pots on the flowers when they start well in the plastic cells which are cheaper.

I like to use 4" square peat pots for my vegetables. It gives them plenty of room for their roots to develop in the 6 weeks before I move them outside. The roots at that point are starting to grow right through the pots. Then, I just score the pot in a few places with a razor knife and plant the whole pot. Just what I am used to....

I could plant the flower seeds directly in the ground in May. I just like to start them in my greenhouse earlier so they have a head start by the time planting time arrives outside. This way they bloom earlier.

I want it to warm up and really be Spring. Wish I could take my little veggie seedlings outside for fresh air but it is too cold.

Couldn't agree more, Rita. Right now, I'd be happy for a sunny, rain free day. None in the past 4 days. Maybe tomorrow. Confused

Sun came out now this afternoon but earlier when I was out and about exercise walking with my dog it was cloudy and damp and chilly.

Can't wait for Spring.

Sun is out now, but not warm out there.....keeping the seedlings in front of my west window.....I'm only going to keep 3 tomato plants, they are small, Indigo Rose...I want to buy some normal sized tomatoes, but I'm not sure WFF will have their tomato day.....usually the middle of May, so I guess we'll just have to wait & see.....

A very large garden center that I pass on my way to my sister's is closed right now.....the store where I got the pansies also sells food, so he's allowed to stay open.

I have noticed the same thing around here. Nurseries that sell a lot of food items are still open. Ones that have just nursery items are closed.

The thing is that the plants like veggie starts and all those flats of flowers have been started weeks or in some slow growing cases months ago. And what about all the flowers forced for Easter and Mothers Day sales? Those are all in the works growing and need to go to the garden centers to be sold.
They just can't not sell them!! Grumbling

I will buy tomatoes (and Easter flowers) if the store remains open.....It's just a small stand.....hard to stay in business.

My dad just told me today that in VT no one is allowed to sell seeds...even grocery stores who are considered essential businesses have their seeds blocked off. So people are wanting to grow their own food and be more self-sufficient with all that's going on and the gpvernment won't let them?! Grumbling

I heard something about this on the news yesterday, but was only half listening, and I believe the "seed prohibition" was a mistake at Walmart. Apparently, Vermont has prohibited in-person sales of nonessential items at big-box retailers and large stores (electronics, furniture, etc.) to keep crowds down in the stores, and Walmart put those signs up all over their stores on many items and aisles, including seeds, but has now taken the signs down off of seed racks. At least I think that's what I heard....
