I think red is a real challenge in daylilies (and thus these color lists surface to help guide us to some of the best), but many of the steps from ditch-lily to cultivars that make us gasp with delight are still unfolding. There are a lot of red tets that make me gasp, though, and I hope someday to stumble across a red dip that does, too. As long as the hybridizer is accurate in showing a cultivar's expected color, and continues working on enhancing its performance and display characteristics, I enjoy seeing the improvements unfold. If I had to disclose my own contenders for "holy grail" seeking, it would be purple dips and yellow tets ... but that may be because I haven't seen more than 30 different daylilies bloom with my own eyes yet. And, yeah, it may also be just my own preference for shades of a color versus the hybridizers' preferences.
A thoughtful question though, since that is what underpins much of my interest in daylilies. I don't really know any other flowering perennial that undergoes such massive changes in colors, patterns, shapes, etc.
For me, I say "bring on the astounding double red dips" ... and smile because I know there are already some doozies out there on the horizon ...
