Neat-O Glen! Owl Ears and Angel Wings Angel on Out of Time look like ruffled edges gone totally wild. Thumbs up Wish we had a side-view shot to see the silhouette.

Perfect looking spider, Ed, and seems to be quite a bud builder! You should get that pic into the database nodding

Never heard of a daylily being described as having owl's ears and angel wings.

We already are nodding that description with owl ears and angel wings comes right from its AHS registration page...new fashion alert!

http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...

Looks like at least 50% Stamile heritage, 25% Salter, and perhaps 25% French lineage (no strangers to the newest fashions...).

AHS does not list either in their Dictionary of Terms. Maybe someone should ask Kevin Walek?

No, this is not a question for the AHS registrar. Usually when people register daylilies, the short descriptions submitted are copied word for word UNLESS the descriptions are too lengthy; sometimes they must be shortened which necessitates an edit. However, an informal descriptive term used in someone's catalog does not mean that this is an "official" or accepted term that will be added to the AHS Dictionary. Sometimes terms come to have "common usage" when a lot of people use them, but that doesn't mean they would be officially denoted as a scientifically accurate descriptor of a cultivar trait and added to the dictionary.

I see angel's wings mentioned in hybridisers descriptions every now again. I haven't seen owl's ear before. There must be someone who knows - like @tink3472. Michele can you help us?

Here it is used in Canada. "The wonderful owl's ear features on the edges of many of the blossoms remind us of the joyful hugs that Heidi gives. HEIDI HUGS"

I suppose it is those structures at the end of the petals. Cute.

Might be alae, plural of ala (or might not be) "...wing-shaped or winglike parts of an organism; appendage, outgrowth, - a natural prolongation or projection from a part of an organism, either animal or plant". Also a descriptor of butterfly wings. Only 14 or so "angel wings" (and some owl ears) showing up in a database search so far (and all from 2009 to now).

Pretty, though! Check out this cherry raspberry red with angel wings:

Wow. Not a bad bloom!!
I thought angel wings was what it is on this non-red Helena Seabird - long projecting sepals.

But I think it is the protruding ornamentation on tip of the petals as in your cherry red one (which I see is a child of BORN TO BE WILD. So far I think its children have not beaten its stunning parent's looks).

OMG! Just found this "RED THREAD", LOL! I breed for colorfast reds, & one of my favorites is an oldie, Olallie Red. It is so colorfast & has such a brilliant sheen to it.

Then there is Niswonger's Firekeeper.
