I am glad that you are doing better, Melva. It is hard to get about one armed. I had hurt my left shoulder, but cortisone shots and exercises have gotten me almost back to normal. I have to be careful not to lift heavy things...like rocks. Hard to garden here with out lifting rocks, but even harder to garden one armed. I want more roses than I have room for. I think I need a psychiatrist, but that would be more expensive and less fun than a few roses.

Do you propagate roses by rooting, layering....?

Both the roses I got from you are growing well - Heideroslein and Veinchenbleau. Heiderlosein had a couple blooms last year. I hope to see a few on Veinchenbleau this spring. I have a white clematis with her to keep her company. I am training them on a garden post. When you run out of horizontal space...think vertical!

Melva, do you have any pictures of crimson gallica? I checked hmf, but they don't have much info on that one. Here is a link if anyone is interested.

Andi - I got Crimson Gallica from Melva 2 years ago.. it actually may blossom this year (I didn't take care of the poor thing and it should have died from neglect, not on the health of the rose). It's actually one of my most vigorous roses I have.. it's already about a foot tall & is very bushy!
Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet...

They say that gallicas need a cold period. We both definitely get that! I don't grow any, yet, but am considering Charles de Mills from Melva. I am glad to read that your Crimson Gallica is surviving. I topped off my roses and my strawberries with cow manure. They seem to like that. I need to spray again with Bayer disease control formula, if it ever stops raining. In the meantime, I have been washing off the aphids with soapy water and spraying them with my neems/baking soda/soap mix. Winston the pug is beginning to enjoy gardening. He naps on the sidewalk, keeping an eye on me. I knit and felted a garden gnome hat for him. I have to get some pics of that! (I also knit him a fez...) There is a website that has patterns for cat hats, but they fit small dogs also....

Sorry to get off topic, Melva, but maybe you need a laugh. I found a good feature on hmf. Here is a link to Melva's rose garden. You can click the links to check out the roses she is selling if you are too lazy to type them.

Here is another one...Thumb of 2011-05-20/melva/39f090
I think almost every cutting I have attempted, has rooted. I expect to have more than 200 roses to sell...they will be ready for new homes in the fall...and if needed I can wait to ship them in the spring of next year. If purchased in the fall, they will be $8 each...right now they are $6....Skiekitty is waiting until spring 2012 for her roses....

They are all so beautiful, Melva. Your garden must be wonderful. I am glad that you are feeling well enough to garden again. Watch your cmail!

It has been raining here all week. I have been getting a bit of planting done between showers.

I know, it is late for those in the places where you have Winter...so I can wait and send them in the Spring...they will be even larger then.I would of had a lot of them now, if I had not broken my shoulder...that cost me a few months while I wasn't able to do anything
