Arif: I love crows. They are so much fun to watch.Very intelligent birds.
There are many in this neighborhood.I saw three attack a squirrel once, drove it off just for fun.
They do live in a social order with "look outs" that warn when danger is comming.
They always signal when I go into the garden or let the cat out.

Smiling . Yes they are indeed, more intelligent then jackdaws. Harm a crow and see what the crow community does. Hilarious!

Arif.

You need the patience to train these birds. I don't think I have that in me.

I grew up with a pet crow that was orphaned when still in the featherless stage.
Watched the most fascinating documentary this last week, 'A Murder of Crows'. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature...
It is a most informative video.

You do know "a murder of crows" is the correct term for a large flock.
I used to have a book on the terms for different things.
"A Bouquet of pheasants" is another

That was a beautiful video. Thanks

Yes, Murder is used for a group of crows. I never quite understood why?
I did not know that about pheasants. Another wrinkle in my brain. Smiling
Glad you like the video. It was so interesting to see how intelligent they are, and how their parents teach them.

But the term “murder of crows” mostly reflects a time when groupings of many animals had colorful and poetic names. Other fun examples of “group” names include: an ostentation of peacocks, a parliament of owls, a knot of frogs, and a skulk of foxes. Big Grin

Arif, you can't watch it? Why not?

Arif: I wonder about some of those.Peeps are baby chicks. Some of the animals are not familier tome either.
"Gaggle of Geese" just came to mind.

There is a book by James Lipton
"Exultation of Larks" The original list started in the 15th century.

"Gaggle of geese" this I am familiar with but last I came across it was maybe end '70s.
"exaltation of larks " . "an exaltation of larks is a poetic comment on the climb of the skylark high into the sky while uttering its twittering song". Hilarious!
http://www.worldwidewords.org/...
"cete of badgers", "kettle of hawks". "ascension of larks". What word play, wonderful. Hilarious!

Arif.
