But maybe you could make an inquiry into seeing if they will have it available at the next plant sale? Or if Timberline will be carrying it?
Boy would I love to have that plant. Lovey dubby

Rolling on the floor laughing Marilyn, plants in general or semps and alpines?? It so cracks me up that I thought I was just coming on here to get quick info on how best to care for my semp beds, and maybe a (one! "A") nursery recommendation, and 3 months later I'm a semp addict! Lovey dubby Rolling on the floor laughing

Lynn, Maybe Calin can send seeds when his plants (I think he said he has 2) flowers...dont know what the rules are about seeds from Romania? I think its a better plan than Marilyn ending up in jail for trying to get some plants from the Denver botanical!! Rolling on the floor laughing

Lynn the area is open from April 15 to August 15. Rest are storms, blizzards, rain, sleet, snow and only people used to it can survive. Just imagine having a bath from April 15 to Aug 15 because you need fuel to melt the ice. The favorite perfume there is Eau de Smoke from the wood being burnt. You are on what is commonly called the roof of the world. Pamirs.

Arif.

It is a very beautiful roof Arif. Smiling

I've sent and received seeds to/from Romania. Plants are another story. Greg are you in contact with Calin?

Be good Marilyn, I don't want to have to come visit you in jail. Sad We are both to old for that. Rolling on the floor laughing

Lynn could you answer a few questions that have been nagging me. This mountain is known as the killer mountain, a challenge for mountain climbers and claims a dozen at least every year.
The question is, if this area is open from April to August and for eight months extreme weather. Way down in the negative Centigrade, gales, blizzards, snow blasting(sand blasting). What on earth do these plants do during that period? Seeds lying dormant I a can understand but what are these doing to survive?
Regards,
Arif.

Arif, I'm not Lynn but I'm going to jump in here...just my thoughts, no science -
First off most of these guys don't survive, they send out all these babies in hopes that one or 2 will make it and since they're still around some few have.
Second they close up - its very fun to see how closed up and small they get in the cold weather! I have a feeling that many of the species varieties are the kind that close all the way up into little balls (like the J. "rollers") in this way, they are less vulnerable to the elements! Tough little, many offspring buggers huh! Gotta love em, reminds me of Italians! (I'm speaking of myself here!! And joking :whistling:) Hilarious!
I tip my hat to you.

Tough yes I agree but how do they save the fluid in them from freezing, have you tasted them and are they saline?
Lynn Blinking short, missing, distracted Confused whats up, are you having rains and chilly weather?

Arif.

I was at work today, I work every Thurs. Sorry for being aol. *Blush*

Greg is correct. Depending on the location and weather they can close up into tight balls, preserving the inner leaves until better weather arrives. Often the outer leaves die. In some areas you will find the arachnoideum type semps. the webbing and heavy cilia protect them from drying winds.

Hurray! I love when intuition "rules"!! (I'm kidding, its only because I saw how small some of mine got in the cold weather, at first I didn't know what was happening, I thought that I was loosing them because they were shrinking, but they looked healthy, just tight and smaller) Thumbs up
