Yes tight pot. As you can see I have that in a small hanging pot the white one is also in that pot. Rolling on the floor laughing

This is the Beer recipe. I asked for help because I had been growing them for 3 years and never had a bloom and this is what they gave me. There are a couple Epi forums that is the only thing they talk about. They will ignore you if you mention any other plant. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Okay Greg. I hope it works as good for you as it has for me. It was so fast I started using it on all my houseplants.

FYI.....I did not use the shultz fertilizer. I had some miracle gro bloom booster so that was the only fertilizer I have used in my mixture.

I'm so excited, my pitaya (dragon fruit) is finally going to bloom. There are 3 huge buds on it. I will have to get out the good camera as it is too high for me to get a good pic with my cell phone. It grew up a 10' rock wall and then a 4' bamboo extension. I think there are probably more buds on my neighbors side of the fence. They always say here that you plant pitaya for your neighbors. It's been at least 3 years since I spread some seeds from a sweet fruit on the wall and also stuck a couple of pieces from a friends in the ground. I'm not sure which this one is, probably the pieces I stuck in the ground. I wish it were closer as there is no way I can get really close to the bloom, even a ladder is iffy as it is almost directly over the pond.

Here are best pics I could get with the cell. I can't believe how huge the buds are, they are double the size of my hand.

Wow Jonna! How amazing!! Do you have the plant wired to the bamboo extension, or is the plant hanging on by itself??
I can't believe the size of those buds!! Hurray! Can't wait to see the actual flowers! Thumbs up

No, it's not wired. I tried to help it get a hold of the rocks at the bottom but honestly, my attempts failed and this section of the plant just managed to grab on and run. Once it got to the bamboo it wrapped around the poles pretty easily, it's the crumbly stuff between the rocks that it has a problem with. If you look at the first pic you can see the roots circling the bamboo.

I took this pic from the terrace upstairs trying to get closer, I really do have to find out where my partner put the good camera. The zoom on my iphone just isn't cutting it. If you click and expand, in this pic you can see the ground and how far up it has come.

The pitaya blooms are white and scented and I believe they only bloom at night, I will have to ask. I also don't know how long they last. Of course, then you get the fruit!! It is in season now so I've been buying the fruit at the fruit stands. That is how I got all the smaller plants that are growing at the base of the wall, from smearing fruit on the wall. I need to figure out how to get them started up the wall.

Last night on the way to bed I went to check on the pitaya. I could see a large white blaze in the dark and went for the flashlight. One of the buds is open and it is huge and gorgeous. I can't believe I'm so excited, I told the friend I got some cuttings from today and she was 'oh nice', she has these blooms all over her wall. Well, it's my first and I'm over the moon.

I didn't know if it would close in the day so I tried to take pictures of it holding the flashlight and the camera or the phone. The phone battery went dead, the camera battery went dead and finally I took a picture with my ipad. I got up at 6am to see it and it was still open plus I had charged the darn phone so I did get some pics. I think I could smell it too but not strongly.

Now to wait for the other two buds to open. I noticed at noon that the flower is still mostly open, we'll see how many days it lasts. Then the fruit will form, I might get to eat one of my own pitaya! Hurray! Hurray!

Yes, I'm a true crazy plant lady! Rolling my eyes. I was really excited about the pitaya several years ago when I planted it, then nothing much happened except a couple of these snake like runners went up the wall. I kind of lost interest and I'm surprised I even noticed the buds. Actually, since they bloomed only a couple days after I noticed them, I didn't notice them very early on. Now I'm excited again but I'm fickle, if they don't make fruit I could lose interest again.

It seems that the bloom opens fully for one night, starts to close and droop after that and is droopier every day until the petals fall off and hopefully the fruit starts to grow farther down. That's what I learned from a local and from looking more closely at her plants which have blooms in all stages. She says that it is the bats that pollinate them. That would explain the night opening although the flowers are constantly filled with bees and other bugs in the daytime.

The second bloom opened last night. I didn't try and get a pic balancing the flashlight and the cell phone, see how fickle I am? I did take a picture before dark yesterday and one this morning.

I am going to try and get the other runners started up the wall. Most of them are just growing around the base and not yet moving up. I've also stuck a piece that broke off in a pot in my guest shower to see if it will run up the wall there towards the screened opening. It's polished concrete so it may not be able to grab on. I don't know what I'll do if it does go up and then tries to break through the screen, I didn't really think this out very well. I would love to find a spot that would let me see the blooms up close and get to the fruit. I'm considering a low part of the wall on my roof.

I'll take more pics if it actually makes fruit. I have plenty of bats around so hopefully they are the right type (mostly I have fruit bats) and found the flower.

Well... I have fruit!! All 3 blooms are fruiting. I can also see at least one fruit on the other side of the wall, a gift to my neighbor.

I also took a couple pics of fruit on my friend's wall, it's lower and a lot easier to see and harvest. I'm going to have to get a big ladder to get to mine.

JB, I've come to the age where I know that ladders and I are no longer friends! I have a guy who comes once a week and does all the ladder, lifting and running up and down the stairs with heavy stuff. I just hired him a few weeks ago and he is making me very happy. The honey-do list is shrinking rapidly which makes my other half very happy too. I kid my friends that he is better than a husband, he always agrees with me, he is young and strong and all he says is 'sí jefa' when I ask for something ridiculous. He also stood patiently holding pictures against the wall in the different places while I decided where I want them! If I don't find enough for him to do, he starts suggesting things he could do, the kid loves to work.

Sounds like you died and went to heaven. What a dream that would be to have someone do that for you other than your family. (Saves so much stress. Big Grin )
When I was a young housewife and Mother of 4, I hated housework and loved my garden, the pool and the horses. So, I spent most of my time outside and at the stable where the kids and I could spend time together and they learned responsibility being around the horses.
I had a Mennonite lady who had been with my family for years as a housekeeper and she came with me when I married, to do those things I hated to do. Those were the good old days when housekeepers and maid service was not as expensive as it is these days. I think housework is a waste of time and energy. I would much rather be on a tractor or a horse (I am grounded now, no more riding) and in the greenhouse.
Have a wonderful day and I hope that young guy stays on with you for awhile. Good workers are so hard to find.
BTW, does he like to pull weeds? If so, Maybe he would like to move to NJ. Rolling on the floor laughing
