Within one day my little babies went from looking great to looking like this. Thumbs down Crying Im a BAD mommy!!! I took them out of the greenhouse and put them somewhere they would get sun for a good half of the day. It has rained all day and night and they are all spongy and looking all mushy......It is supposed to rain and snow tomorrow again but then be mostly sunny for the next four days and in the low to high 60s. What do I do??? I dont want them to get root rot like my first hen and die. Shrug! HELP Sad

Jackie, I'm sorry Thumbs down Do you have any way for them to be outdoors but out of the rain? I think most of them will be fine once your weather dries back up! On the couple that don't look good, you have to decide if its worth lifting them, peeling the rotten leaves, and letting them dry out somewhere, a garage or something, and after a couple of days replanting...from your photos it really only looks like S.'Uranus' that would need this now. I tip my hat to you.

The NOIDs have been in MI and so are used to your weather! And they mostly look larger than your babies from Lynn?? just a guess

OH NO!!! Greg really?? I just put them back in the greenhouse to dry out. Should I really pick the rotten leaves right now? Should I bring it inside and just leave it out of the dirt? I cant let it die. I just got it from Lynn....she will KILL me Crying

Jackie, you shouldn't type that Lynn will kill you in public because that will prevent her from doing so out of diplomacy. You should be more discrete in those thoughts so that Lynn can still have the option of doing or not doing so...
It's only fair...
I'm just letting Greg help you for now because he's good...

I just feel sooooo horrible. So I should go grab it right now and take it out of the dirt and let dry? I know Lynn will not "Kill" me lol but I just hope she isnt disappointed in my mothering....Should I have just planted them in one big bed? Put them in different pots? Crying

Haha - thanks Bev! This is fun - tag team plant assistance! nodding (sorry Jackie, did I say "fun" no not fun! Thumbs down )
Jackie, you can wait it doesn't have to be tomorrow...being in the greenhouse is a good idea only while its raining.
The dead leaves can/will lead to rot, so picking them off is a good idea.
Also, most semp "chicks" don't mind being lifted and handled a bit. (as you know, I often do this! Its my opinion that I'm mimicking nature by lifting them every now and then Shrug! Or they're just too cute and I can't help it! Rolling on the floor laughing ) Although I know others plant them and leave them alone :nodding:)
Tomorrow I'll get updates of the one that has been giving me "rot" problems Jovibarba 'Torrid Zone' and you'll see that I have to keep picking a leaf here and there off, and I can tell which ones because they are no longer firm and they often fall easily from the plant.
Hope this helps Jackie! Group hug

I'm wondering whether the greenhouse may have been too humid and not enough air circulation. I know you unzipped but that's not enough ventilation. I think that's why greg asked if you could still put outside but away from the rain....
I would just peel away the mushy leaves (don't tug too hard if leaf does not give way; wait another day and try again) and move the plants out of the sun and rain but still leave outside.

Jackie I so empathize with you. I really hope everyone is right and they will come back for you. (we need that praying emoticon)

I have a similar problem. A couple of weeks ago when everyone was putting out such
wonderful pictures of their spring babies. I went out and uncovered all my plants (netting and leaves from the fall) to see
how things were developing. Many of them seemed to be doing well. I moved some out into sunnier sites. Then we got some
very low temps and a couple of more snow falls. The days would warm up to the 40s and melting and icing would occur.

Now many of the plants are really sickly looking. I am just going to leave them alone. We are expecting some very warm temps (70s) in next few days but then more snow about Tuesday. No wonder they are not doing well, huh?

I have been afraid to bring it up for fear of being labeled a really bad semp mama. Hilarious! Hilarious!

Marilyn, aw! Someone told me once that the thing that makes succulents grow the best is "healthy neglect" (meaning forgetting about them a bit) I think semps are the same, if we fuss and worry over them they don't do as well! As long as you have well draining soil so they can dry out, they'll be fine!
I hope your plants all do great things, then this time next year you'll be laughing! Group hug

Ok, I couldnt wait another minute so I ran out (yes in the dark as it is 9:13 here) and grabbed the Uranus. I picked carefully off all the mushy leaves that pulled easily and set them on a small plate....is this good enough? I dont have anywhere to put them out of the rain but the greenhouse. I had left them outside and arent doing so well. Im thinking that I will leave them in the greenhouse tomorrow but Friday morning I will put them out in the sun since it is supposed to be really nice through at least tuesday with no rain at all. Should I put them out in full sun on friday or somewhere they will get partial sun for part of the day? I dont want to burn them either.

Marilyn we arnt bad semps mommy's. Bev is right our weather just is sucky! Thumbs down I hope yours come out ok. I would hate to come home from work tomorrow and have them look even worse than they do right now. Thank you guys for the great advice. I know you all know what your talking about. So here is my S. Uranus now

If you are going to leave them un-potted, I wouldn't put them out in the sun. If they are staying on the plate, just leave them indoors and wait till Friday for nice weather and put in the shade. Afterwards, depending on how they look (non mushy), I would just pot them up in new dirt and put in morning sun. Don't water until they look thirsty. I assume they got too much water from the rain or never dried out from previous watering (natural or otherwise)

Bev, Ive only went out and grabbed the S.Uranus one and put that on a plate to leave inside while it drys out a bit. The rest I have left in their little pots to dry out hopefully. I will repot the icky ones tomorrow after I get home from work in some new dry dirt and take any yucky leaves off and see how they do. Friday morning I will put them all out of the greenhouse and see if I can find a spot with morning sun....not sure where that would be though. They havent even been watered since I received them from Lynn. They have only had the rain these last couple days and that's it. Lynn thought they may be getting to hot in the greenhouse so I just left them out to see how they would do. Thank you all for your help.

Hoping for the best.... unusually late spring for us, even though we do get snows but not usually the freezing weather at this time of year.

As I recall, everyone said "wait till spring, Marilyn" last fall. Well I am still waiting Rolling on the floor laughing
