Ok, my Echeveria harmsii was looking good and has new leaves on it that are a lighter shade of green but tonight when I touched the soft leaves two of them fell off. I left them in the dirt to see if they will try and root itself but not sure as to why they would just so easily fall off. I only mist the top of the dirt every couple weeks for fear of over watering them so Im pretty sure it isnt that. It is in my window box currently and one of the leaves are even getting darker with red on the edges. Ive asked Bev in the meantime if she might have any thoughts but do you guys know why this might be happening? Confused

Thought I was doing so good too! Sad

Lynn I just read that. It is like the first picture on there. It just seems that the newer lighter green leaves are very tender and want to fall off easily. I think the other leaves seem ok. Bev mentioned that it might be because the plant is just sensitive and the leaves will often fall off and re-root themselves. Here the most recent pics of them.

Oooo, great photo, and planter. Lovey dubby
I don't know that I would mist it, everything I read says to water and let dry before watering again. Mimicking nature in their natural habitat.
I found it interesting to read about where they grow in nature. Pretty harsh environment.

Yes I did as well. My hubby is actually returning from Mexico as his Dad lives down there and he said his grandma actually has succulents in her yard. He's trying to figure out a way to bring them back with him tomorrow but don't know if they will let him cross the border and board a plane back to Michigan with them. We shall see. When I do mist these tenders I make sure not to mist the actual plant just the dirt underneath the plant. There isn't any drainage so I'm going really light on the watering until I can keep them outside day and night to really see how they do. I did make sure to make a good mix that is a little sandy and has some pea stones in there. At the bottom I put a layer of the stones for any water to sit but I barely water them at all. I'm way to scared of root rot now.

I will have to take a better picture of it when I get home I think. Just want to be sure it's not due to under watering or anything. Confused

It is more difficult to judge what is needed when there is no drainage for the container. But all of them look happy and healthy. You must be doing something right. nodding

Hi Jackie, it could be that the plant is getting just a little too cold, but winter is almost over, so it should be fine! The plants do look great! I tip my hat to you.

Ok....so my hubby just returned from visiting his family in Mexico and he brought me back some succulents from his 90 year old great gram's yard. They are tenders I do believe since they come from mexico. He took cuttings and wrapped them in wet paper towels and then newspaper and put them in his bag. I dont know what kinds they are and dont know what to do to keep them alive. For now I stuck them in some dirt until I can figure this out. I know Ive read about letting them callous over but how do I know when they are dry enough? If anyone can help identify these that would be great!

I agree Bev! He is the best Lovey dubby

Here is another picture. I just kinda stuck them in the dirt....not sure what to do with them. And your right the one does look like an aloe of some sort. He took some other pictures of the whole plant I just have to transfer them off his camera. Those might help more.

Oh, I think the big leafed one with purple coloring is a sort of Kalachoe.

Nice plants Jackie! Leave them in the soil, just don't water them for a week or so, not even misting...they'll be in shock due to the temperature and different lighting, just ignore them for a while nodding
Bev I agree that purple one is a kalanchoe. One of the plants looks a bit like a peperomia, maybe??
