I hear ya! It almost costs as much for the soil, chicken grit, lovely pots, pot stands (oh wait, it costs much more for all this) than for the plants! Rolling on the floor laughing

Yeah I have been going sooooo overboard on all of that but I wanted to do it right this time. Lava pebbles, miracle grow potting mix, pea stone, cactus dirt, pots, perlite, then the plants lol. But it is so fun and its sorta like doing crafts you just want to think of what you can do next Big Grin

Sometimes if you pick a big enough project, you don't ask what's next; you are asking yourself: "Am I ever going to live long enought to complete this?"

Hear hear!!! That's me, or its turning into little side projects that my brain just won't stop thinking about right now Thumbs up Rolling on the floor laughing Using wood and hardware cloth! Or any metal item for a frame and then wire wrapping hardware cloth to that...on and on! Lots and lots of time spent wrapping! nodding

Greg one of the things I collect is copper items. My grandma started this collection and when she passed I have kept on with it. I will have to think of some way to incorporate the succulents with some of the copper :} What are you wrapping exactly and why? Are these for your semps?

Jackie that would look very cool!! Honestly I'm mostly in the "thinking about it stage" but I have several screens that look like they're from stove vents, then I have a metal pan that I want to be a little taller, so I'm wiring the hardware cloth to the sides. These will be for plants (not necessarily just semps) including semps though! I really want to create a garden that stands out! My building is near 2 different hospitals, so there is always lots of foot traffic! Yesterday I was out there and a woman walked by and said "Oh my how pretty - you've taken out all the weeds and are planting sedums and semps!" And I said "yes you know these plants huh?" "Of course yes" she replied, then I said "not sure how well they'll do once the trees leaf out, it'll be so shady"
"No they're going to be fine, I have many in shade just like this, they're going to be great!" Hooray! How nice is that!! And I just want to keep getting those types of responses, whether I'm aware of them or not! I want it to be like the many yards that I walk by and go "wow!" Thumbs up Thumbs up
I tip my hat to you.

Wow Bev, that is such a nice thing to say! Thank you!! I tip my hat to you. Ornamental plants are something that are only grown for beauty, to make someone "cheer" up and feel lifted! And this neighborhood with its hustle and bustle needs that little bit of joy and lifting up!! Its partly what keeps me going when I walk out there and see that someone tore out 1/4 of my plants and left them lying on the ground Thumbs down Oh well, they left them lying on the ground and that's why I like my semps and sedums...replant and they'll be just fine! nodding Guess its not such a good idea to yell at the drug dealers and tell them I'm taking a photo of their drug deals! Thumbs down It could be them who tore the plants up??? Sad Again, it could be worse, I could be relying on these plants for my food - and since I'm not - I'm very lucky! Hurray! Group hug

Greg Bev is right you already have me amazed and im here in Michigan. Your semp wall will be so awesome!!! I cant wait to see how you hang it up and where. You should take more pictures of what your current projects are and share! I cant get enough of what people are doing with their plants. I've been having lots of fun on here so far. I hope that when summer comes and I get mine going I get the same responses that your already getting.

Bev, Loving your new picture!!!

Oh geeez. Yeah don't mess with those people Greg....probably not the smartest thing. I am seeing that not over watering them is really helping them a lot. I never want to lose one again to root rot. Im glad your plants are ok. I will probably be worried about my dog trampling them if I put them in my yard but I will have to put up a little fence or something to be sure she cant get to them. She gets so hyper. I cant wait for it to warm up! Seriously Michigan is depressing right now Thumbs down

Greg, so sorry your semps were ripped out! I have to patrol my area daily! But it's mainly b/c of my pups! Of course, I converted a nice leafy dog bed into a semp bed so I asked for it on that one! And how wonderful for the lady to acknowledge the beauty you created!!

Patty - photos of your doggies please!!! Yes it was really nice of her! She almost walked by and then turned back, which for some reason I appreciated even more, almost like she was shy but just "had" to say something! Big Grin I don't know how I'd grow these if I had dogs! They're in raised beds, but I imagine the dogs would just jump right in, they're not that "raised" Sticking tongue out

My dogs are trained to stay out of the beds. Not the easiest thing to do with Rat Terriers. Thumbs up

Jackie that is the grit we've been talking about. If you have a farm store near by you should be able to get it there.

Greg I look forward to seeing your new projects. I know the few photos I've seen on another forum showed just what wonderful things you have been doing to beautify the yard. Lovey dubby

Yes Patty, dog photo please.
