Clint that is very cute. It almost looks like it is ceramic. Very cool! Now I will have to go to HL and see what things I can find!

Holly I think I may just take one of my hubby's old work boots and surprise him with a new planter hehehe Thumbs up

They were the last boots I wore before I retired and I wore them for 3 years so they were good and old looking. People at work kept asking me why didn't I get a new pair especially since we got an allowance each year to get new boots if we wanted.

I know what you mean Clint....my co-workers are thinking of running an intervention on me because im always looking at planters and plant related things during my breaks.

Holly, I think my hubbys boots will do just fine then. He has his own construction company and gets real good use out of them. I think I will give it a go here soon.

Take a utility knife and cut some X's in a couple of spots especially in the tongue of the boot then plant thru the tongue and carefully loosely do up the laces.

Plant through the tongue? You stick a few little semps in the holes you make in the tough then? So the boots probably get pretty good drainage that way and just from the boot itself being so worn the water probably evaporates fairly fast correct? Do you think it will make a difference if its real leather or not? Not sure what his are....Ill have to check.

This doesn't compare to Patty's gigantic piece of wood she showed off a while ago (I wonder if she got around to planting in it) , but I discovered this laying around outside the house and decided "here is this spring's future small planting project". Its a log I found along the beach years ago and I've used it as décor in my beds while living in several states and now I am thinking to plant into it. The planting space is approx. 8 in X 2 in and I call this a form of crevice planting. I am going to comb my noid semps and sedums and just choose the small stuff to plant into it.

Log with crevice(s)

Love that piece of wood it is going to look great.
Here are two things I plant. One is just a terracotta pot with a piece of broken pot added as a backdrop. It is very pretty when planted and a great way to use broken pot shards, The other one a 2 tiered basket that you would put fruit out on your counter top.

I like the dramatic terra cotta. How did you get that big piece to stand up? Aren't those baskets great to plant? Notice they aren't that cheap, especially the metal ones...

You can find them at the flea markets, thrift shops and yard sales. I got mine from my DIL who had it in a box to donate. I got that pot from a friend it had a few plants in it at the time. He glued the two pieces together with a cement glue.
