Orchids
Thumb of 2013-04-10/rkidkelly/7e92f7

c. walkeriana 'Kenny'..this ones tagged Kenny so he stays Kenny...lots of controversy over this plant
has a new shoot that's got a bud in it also. these when they pop out new shoots usually have a bud in it . where in lies the controversy over this plant as walkeriana species are more typical in blooming from an eye below the new growth. Not out of the top of the bulb. Further reading provided the fact that they have been found and bloomed both ways. Just confuse us some more with your science facts. Fiction is far more interesting.

c.intemedia 'Tipo'
just a wonderful shape and color on these flowers . I see why this cultivar was awarded. I kill these and dont know why yet. I grow them like I do everything else they just dont live long after they bloom. The bulbs get wrinkly shrivel and generally ugly. One of my 2 problem catts. c.violacea is the other troubler.

Rkidkelly, I had to smile when I read how you had your orchids everywhere, I am quite familiar with that! Smiling I had a friend who had Orchids tucked in anywhere possible. It was quite interesting and fun! He also grew gorgeous stuff.
Myself - at this point I have some Cacti and Succulents in the Garage ( waking up now from dormancy with the door open during the day), downstairs in the South facing windows on bookcases, upstairs the (sort of) sunroom has tall Cacti and large Epiphyllums, Passifloras and some more etcs. Then the upstairs room which leads into the greenhouse ( attached to the house) has Rhipsalis and more assorted stuff. Then the greenhouse is nowadays 90 % Orchids with more C&S on some top shelves. All of them go outside for the Summer! Heh it is tough to be organized, but I manage.

I love the white Paph! Interesting you should mention dew. I think when people talk about certain Orchids to be kept dry for a certain amount of time ( like some Dens) they don't factor in the considerable amount of dew those plants receive in nature.

Nice walkeriana! Mine blooms right out of the new young lead, surprised me the first time I saw it.

The C intermedia is beautiful!

I'm just back from Apopka and Melanie is on her way home. I had ordered and paid for two orchids from Meke Aloha Orchids in Sarasota and the owner, Paul Storm, threw one in for free. Elaine picked them up for me and brought them with her to Apopka. They are:
1. Myrmechea Christian Fun
2. Bc. Little Stars X Mcv. galeottiana
3. Mcv. Frances Fox 'Sunspots' (The heavy hitter of the bunch)

At Apopka I bought:
4.Phaius Dan Rosenberg 'Tropical'
5. NOID Epi with orange flowers (Only $3, what could I do?)
6. Phal. Guadalupe Pineda
7. Phal. mancervi
8. Phal. amboinensis 'white' X Phal. gigantea
9. Lc. Casitas Spring X Blc. Lindsey Andreason (very Fragrant)
10. Cym. Cotton Club
11. Cym. Kenny Wine Red
12. V. Ogden Phipps
13. V. Sirilak X V. Bitz's Heartthrob
14. V. Wirat Gordon X V. Varut Fuchsia
15. V. Thonglorsand X V. Pimsai

Some are blooming but I haven't had time to take pictures yet. This may be the most important picture of the bunch:

Just in case you don't know; :Laurel, Steve, Melanie, Jim and Elaine, left to right. Thanks to Elaine's husband, Marshall, for taking the picture.

I thank you, too. Here is a part of my haul from our Apopka trip. Yes, 17 new 'chids followed me home. Had to throw the shopping shoes in the pool . .
Four little noid Epi's from First Orchids, a gorgeous big Phaius 'Dan Rosenberg' in bloom for $8 and two little golden noid Vandas in bloom, $6 each. (oh, sorry, forgot to take a pic of the little Vandas). I also got two more big Vandas that actually had tags! Prices at this place are truly amazing, but about half of their orchids don't have any tags.

Also got two little Tols, two small cattleyas both in bud or bloom, and the prize of the haul, which Jim thinks might be a Miltassia Aztec 'Toni'.

Oh, I forgot my portrait of Jim wondering how he was going to fit all his new orchids into the OC . .. after we left they must have gone on to Chapmans to get some Cyms!

You're gonna love Kenny Wine, Jim. Mine's still in bloom, although almost finished.

Yes, Elaine, we went back to Chapman's to see if he had returned. Charlie was not there but his son was. I picked up two large cyms for $10 each.

Orchids
you all kind of seem to know each other. Big Grin Thats really cool. I only met ONE person so far that's an online orchideer whos in the orchid society. They kind of leave me be for the most part...

I got no more blooms today but I did get a cold blast and more rain. All my stuff is outside in 45 degrees and Im stuck at work. I hope nothing gets ruined after all these cold months I spent being the protector of the the bloom. Now a late cold blast caught me. Thumbs down

I guess I get home and see how much rain my planters collected and start dumping water out of my jars and pots. Wish me luck so I can show you more nice flowers.

I loveorchid flowers!!! Thumbs up

Years of chatting about Orchids tends to bring people together? Smiling

Keeping fingers crossed!! I am sure they will be alright!

We had 3 Spring days with temps in the high seventies, it was sheer heaven. Today is back to the fifties, but things are busting out, the Magnolias are finally starting to open.

Lovely photos, Jim. I'm going to have to follow you around more, next time we go shopping in Apopka! Can't wait to see 'Christian Fun' when you have an unscathed flower.

Couple more of my haul from Apopka,

Phal celebensis x phal nilcholtzii is a little plant with delicate flowers.

As usual with reds, the photo doesn't do justice to Slc. Anduril 'Krull's Scarlet'. Nice small plant with a spike in bloom, one ready to open, and another big one coming along.
