Oh boy Redlands! I was able to attend that event for 9 years in a row. That event used to be held in mid May.
I wonder how many people won't attend because of Ian???

Well, there is a lot of work still to do! My sister over in Fort Myers area still has no power, but she is ok thankfully. But for me, I need a break from the yard clean-up. So I'm planning on attending Sunday since that is the best day for finding some good deals I hope. Crossing Fingers!
One things Floridians know is that it's important to support local businesses especially after disasters. So, finding local businesses to eat at and purchasing from local growers definitely helps.

dyzzypyxxy said: I don't know, Ted, that plant is so obviously very happy and healthy. I'd be hesitant to mess with success there.

You have such an interesting selection of orchids, all gorgeous, but I do wish I could stand next to that V. falcata for the heavenly scent treatment. I have a couple blooming with one small spike each, but even they are just sublime, when I can catch a whiff.

You are spot on about the leaves, Bill. the feel, shape texture and even color are not typical Phal.
Elaine, interesting in my case is being at a show or nursery and going ' ooh that's neat, ooh that is pretty.' Absolutely no rhyme or reason. Hilarious!
And since I listen to your and Bill's opinions on orchids, we will leave it alone and see how many spikes come up next time. Thank you both for the advice. I tip my hat to you.

Miltonia moreliana
I am watching 4 developing spikes for months now, finally they are starting to open. The scent is lovely aromatic floral, with hints of Anise and Cinnamon.

Ursula, your Miltonia moreliana is a very happy plant! We have a few at the university greenhouse. They always bloom well but the plants look awful. I'm guessing it's a bit too hot here for them, so it's nice to see a well grown one Lovey dubby
A couple of new things here in bloom to share.

Interesting color combination on the Waianae Starburst. I will be honest, at first I wasn't sure that I cared for the color combination but now I am seeing the charm in the combination. Too bad the bottom of the lip rolls back.
Hsinying Pink Doll is very pretty especially that picotee around the edge of the lip!!!

I have to bring in my orchids today! The cold weather is finally here!!! Forecast lows for early Sunday morning is currently 36 degrees!! That could change in the next 48 hours but I am usually 2 to4 degrees cooler then that local forecast. 36 is too cold let alone 32-36!!!

So glad I got them all inside. I am pleased to see just how well they have performed this year. I even have one Phrag. in high bud!
Just before I went out to bring in the last load, I noticed a Chickadee dancing up and down the inflorescence. I nearly had a stroke!!! There must have been an insect or two. But as it turns out, no harm done! Crossing Fingers!

Low for tonight is now forecasted to be 34 and that would be too close for comfort. If I do go 4 degrees or so cooler, it could drop to 30 degrees. I have no experience with Phrags. and a temperature like that.

Sounds good! Thumbs up
The only plants I still have outside are my Epiphyllum hybrids, two large Jades, a Hildewintera and a planter with Mezoo, all ready to pull into the garage if necessary. I am watching the low temps this week too.

Brrr, frosty weather sounds like a whole different world. We cooled off so nicely after the hurricane went by, and it's still pretty nice but warming up to more Florida-like weather now. Highs in the mid-80's and the usual humidity returning by Sunday.

Tonight may be the last night for a while that we can sleep with the windows open. Crying I do love to hear the tree frogs singing, and the wind shushing through the bamboo.
