Lynn, I have lots of Fire Dragon for you, but darn that blue jay anyway! Something still keeps moving some of mine out of the dirt... Always the same little plants, I can count on it! I keep forgetting the hairpin trick... I'll go make me a not now!

Twitcher, I'll keep a close eye on it - it could just be that the form is growing longer and more mis-shapen.

I'm going to start saving those little plastic fruit basket to sit over the ones the birds like to play with.

I have lots of electric fence wire that I cut up, bend in a "U" and pin new semps down. I use 3 or 4 per semp. It does a lot to keep the birds, cats, squirrels, etc from uprooting them. When I get lazy and don't do it, I usually regret it. A crow made off with one of my new semps lately so I immediately pinned down the remaining semp.

Good idea tabby. You should submit that to the Ideas.
Going to get my electric fence wire and make up some pins. Thumbs up

I'm sure other wire would work too. I just happen to have a LOT of it and it's about the right gage.

Same here. And we don't use hot wire anymore. Good use for it making semp pins.

Tabby, I think you wrote that once before. I don't have any electric fence wire, but I did unbend some of the large paper clips and used those as you suggested and it works great! Thumbs up Hurray!

Utopian, with the same double rosette as Tourmalyi.

I checked the tags and they both came from the same source. I have had them for one year.

Wonder if maybe a growth enhancer can cause this?
Or maybe an errant Jovi gene. Lol.

Utopian

Tourmalyi

Janice, great photos. I just got this information from Kevin.

JungleShadows said:Lynn,

Yeah some semp cultivars just do this every now and then. 'Jungle Shadows' and its kids will do this quite often. In these cases the stolon that should be forming doesn't form much of a stem so it stays embedded in the crown rather than extending away from the rosette center.

Kevin

Very interesting. Thumbs up

That is really interesting! Janice I still agree with you that it could be exacerbated by using growth hormones!

Here is a strange 'Sassy Frass' The attached chicks are blooming, but there is no flower stalk in the center of the hen. The center seems to be getting pushed off to one side though.
