Wow Chris, that is impressive. And it looks like it is forming blooms in the middle?

The whole thing is really strange. I do hope it keeps growing, not just bloom and die. Smiling

It would be amazing if that happened. But from what little I have found on the topic of fasciated semps, they don't seem to reproduce that trait. But we just never know. This could be the one that does. Smiling

Everything I've read says pretty much the same thing Lynn. Sad I just want the fascinated part to keep growing, not bloom. I assumed no chicks would crest.

It does seem that the longer we have semps, and the more varieties we have, we soon start seeing odd things going on. One of the things that makes them so interesting.

I can honestly say I've never had a different type of plant that I watch as carefully for changes either. Oh sure, I'll check out my lilies, etc. from time to time, but I actually study my semps nearly every day. Whistling

I agree 100% its such a strange phenomenon for me! Yes I love plants, so that isn't different, but even if I'm running late, I will take a minute and run out and just see if there's anything different with the semps - because there so often is! Amazing little plants! I tip my hat to you.

The only thing odd I noticed this time is that my S. 'Fire Dragon' is gone. As in nowhere to be found. Sad

One lone individual that was finally growing roots. I was so excited about that plant. I even loved it's name. Crying

Chris, I can't tell from the pics for sure if the crested Purple Passion is crowning. If you are sure it is, you can cut off each end of the crested plant where you think the flowers will be coming from. The central portion should continue to grow in a crested manner. The two pieces you cut off can also be rooted. Because the plant is crested, there is a chance that the two flower-pieces will continue to grow in a crested form, and may not die. But definitely divide them so that they do not cause the main plant body to die off if it turns out to be flowering. Treat the cuttings like you would a rosette division (dry a day or two then plant). They should not be difficult to root (again, if not a pure flower stalk).

What you have is precious. Please try to preserve it.

No Triffids, the Blue Jays have run them off. The Blue Jays have been out of control this last week. Even the hummingbirds patience with them is running thin.
I have even caught them on the covered deck messing around in the potted plants.
I may have to name them all Bill. Angry
