You may be seeing some special flowers. The mutant ones don't grow too big so you may not need to give them a very large trellis.

I gave Kurenai a trellis because it was looking for one. It sure is a pretty plant.

A mutant opened up a cute double flower this morning, resembling a peony flower or Dianthus flower. The Japanese call it a botan flower.

Thank you. It's amazing how it's happily growing in a small yogurt container.

Ok, I need some help. I'm trying to sort my JMGs again after getting so many new acquisitions and these I just can't figure out what they are supposed to look like. My categories are pretty basic right now-Red/Pink/Chocolate, Purple, and Blue for large flowered types. I keep the Kikyo and other creepers separate like Kawaii and Sun Smile. I have a separate bag where I keep mixes like my 2022 seed harvest and mixed packs I've gotten via trade.
Thumb of 2023-01-28/Bandita74/d68633
Now what the heck are these? Last year I grew 4 pots of JMG based on this system and I definitely got a few wrong or flowers didn't come true. This year I want to be more specific for seed collection as my plants were all grown together so I could only harvest seed as a mix since they all probably crossed being in the same pots.

I wonder if it's botan for botanical? It looks like an unfinished word! Thinking

Nope, just botan. I think it translates to peony or button.

According to this it means button but maybe it's a colloquial word for peony as well?

My advice for what it's worth and what I've done is to label them exactly what the package says then after they flower label them as you see fit. So many of Karen's seeds were a mix of her descriptions and could be anything.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you. I usually just mark on the package what they are supposed to look like and then file them accordingly until I grow them and find out for sure. This is very helpful.

My filing system is pretty basic but doesn't allow for mutants or otherwise rare types so I think I will keep those separate. Like these and the Q0426 mutant.
Thumb of 2023-01-29/Bandita74/a1aa9e
I filed the 2 others away I had questions on so now I just have these 2. Guess I'll have to grow them and find out. Also Benikomachi is a big red flower, yes?

That's quite a seed collection, Lisa. You have seed acquisition syndrome bad šŸ˜‚.

This Ipomoea purpurea is making 3 point leaves. Pretty color too.

Has anyone ever ordered MG seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds? They have a nice selection of MGs for sale and a bunch of other flower and veggie seeds. Some, I have never seen before. Prices aren't too bad.

I believe so. Have you ever ordered from them? Would like to hear from someone who has ordered in the past regarding the seed quality.
