I sure do hope my Dwarf Project plants stay small this year. Last year they grew like monsters!! I did have them in ground but they are in ground this year also.

At first when I planted them and soon thereafter I thought they were really small and not growing. But now this Friday they will be in ground two weeks. I can for sure see that they are indeed growing.

Today I Fertilized all my Tomato plants with AgroThrive Fruit And Flower liquid Fertilizer. I started with all the dwarf project plants to make sure they get an extra boost and do well. I do really like AgroThrive. It really works.

Does Containers Choice count for Short Stuff Gardening? My plants are really short and quite stocky. The shortest one is 9 inches and the tallest 12 inches tall. I have 4 plants. Two have open blooms. one has bloom buds and I don't see any yet on the lat one.

In fack the plants are so small I was looking at them today thinking I could easily have planted twice as many in the space I planted them at. They are in ground.

If they are like other dwarf varieties, I bet they will spread out sideways. They seem to have long, strong lateral branching.

Oh, okay thanks. Then maybe good that I left lots of room between the plants.

I happened across this thread and became interested in what everyone was growing. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anyone growing "Siam" from Park Seeds:
https://parkseed.com/kitchen-m...

I have a couple of the Aerogardens and came across this cultivar when I was researching to try dwarf/miniature tomatoes in my aerogarden. Decided to give this cultivar a try. Wow! I was so surprised at how well all the seeds did that I started in the aerogarden. The fruit is small but when completely ripe, it is literally like eating candy. Very sweet and juicy. Some were tiny and some were the size of a typical cherry tomato. They self-pollinate, too. (I didn't have to use my small trusty paint brush to pollinate them.)

The only problem that I ran into (briefly) was when I went to transplant them outside, the root system was extensive in the aerogarden so I had to cut most of the roots way back to get them out of the plastic white pod containers. They naturally went into shock for a couple weeks, but have since bounced back and are doing well. The trunk and stems are very sturdy and the plant in general is very compact. I am really impressed with this cultivar! I have tried growing other dwarf/miniature tomatoes, but they never did as good as this cultivar.

If you have an aerogarden, I highly recommend this cultivar!

I posted about Siam not realizing this thread is about the Dwarf Tomato Project. My post was actually about a miniature tomato plant cultivar. Sorry about that! *Blush*

I think the thread is about any/all dwarf tomatoes, not just varieties developed during The Dwarf Tomao Project.

Neat to see how well those did for you and to know that variety is so tasty!

I've been really impressed by how different rugose foliage is from regular tomato leaves (whether RL or PL). The leaves have really thick substance as well as a somewhat crinkled texture. They remind me of a leaf of cabbage, or maybe kale!

Thanks, Jill. Smiling

I, too, find the leaves very interesting. Very thick and strong. Probably why this cultivar is so resistant to diseases. I am going to try growing a couple more "Kitchen Minis" from seeds. They have another tomato cultivar called "Red Velvet Cherry Tomato" seeds. Looks interesting as well. Ordered seeds for that one and thought I would try the Kitchen Minis Fresh Bites Red and Orange Sweet Peppers, too. The seeds are expensive for so few, but the plants do produce seeds in the fruit. So it is hopefully a one time purchase that I can harvest seeds from all these minis to grow out in the future.

I am fascinated by the mini plants that produce fruit. Amazing, IMHO! Lovey dubby

I agree

I may have posted this on this thread earlier, but I grew Micro Tom on my windowsill one year as a curiosity. It was fun, but the fruits -- whooeee, they were sour. My daughter (probably 5 at the time) ate them anyway and loved them. Kids. Go figure.

Are those varieties you mentioned hybrids? If so, saving seeds may or may not give you something similar.

I started this thread and I say: please feel free to post about Siam! Smiling I mean, mini-tomatoes and dwarfs are practically the same thing, right? This thread wasn't intended to be just about Dwarf Project plants.

Thanks, everyone for the welcome!

Jill - I don't know if the Siam seeds are hybrids. Probably. I started new seeds of many veggies and herbs in my aerogarden. Ironically, the only seeds that seem to be doing well are the Siam tomato seeds and the garlic chives. And a pumpkin seed. All the rest aren't sprouting. (Which are seeds from the store.) Grrr!

The Siam tomato seeds are so small that when I tapped some out of my envelope, several fell into the pod containers. I just left them in instead of trying to scrape them out. Wouldn't you know ... every one of them sprouted! Blinking

I hope to separate them out this weekend and transplant some into potting mix. They love moist growing medium. Here are some photos of the sprouts from Siam. There are several growing in each of 3 pods, which is why they look so leafy. This cultivar amazes me!

And the ones I transplanted outside, are producing flower buds. What I noticed though is that the tomato plants are changing. The leaves look more like the usual tomato plant leaves instead of the way they were growing, in the aerogarden, prior to transplant. I find that rather interesting to see developing. They are getting taller too, than was listed as their growing height. Maybe the aerogarden affects their growth habit? I am wondering if their flavor will be different too? I shall find out. Siam was not sold for growing in an aerogarden. I just experimented with that idea. Siam is supposed to grow outdoors. Aerogardening is a fascinating concept.

Here are some photos of the transplants currently:

I was working in the backyard tomato bed this afternoon. I have 14 of my dwarf project plants there. Which is most of them.

I put the very fine powdered Leonardite Shale rock dust powder around the base of those todday. and around the bed were they are planted. Bought it at Amazon. 70% humic Acid. Works wonders for the fertility of the soil.

Those dwarf project plants look so good!! I love the sturdy syructure and my plants are healthy dark green.

I have 14 Dwarf tomato project plants in my big backyard tomato bed. Two rows of 7 each. One row has cages but as I had run out the other row just has metal stakes. I thought I just would tie them to. But decided too much work so ordered tomaro cages on Amazon.

They sat here for a few days until my friend came over and helped put them together as they needed to be crimped. So today I plan to get them around the plants. Need to do this now before plants get too big.

These cages are sturdy enough but only 12 inches square. Should work well for the dwarf project plants. But I sure can't see my regular indetermibates in them because they already fill up my big Texas Tomato Cages to overflowing.

The dwarf project plants look awesome. Flowers but I haven't noticed ant fruit set as yet.
